Apologies if this is a repost but I couldn't see anything in my quick scan on the P&P.

Did anyone watch the programme on Holloway Prison last night? In it they show a drug addict being released from her 3 week sentence, on release they gave her a release grant and a subsistance allowance. She walked out with £160 cash in her arse pocket. And guess what, within 3 hours she had bought drugs and had been re arrested. FFS, what else is a junkie going to do with £160, and why are we the tax payer giving these scroats money as they leave jail??

Made my piss boil as 3 years ago my wife couldn't even get Maternity allowance from the government yet these scroats are given money for breaking the law.

You couldn't make it up!!

I liked the fact that they were giving the fat one with behavioural problems a one man tent, as she had nowhere to go on her release.

What would a woman do with a one-man tent? Wait outside?

Happens all the time. Drug addicts/alkies get released from prison with £40 and the address of a local hostel. Most never make it there (and the ones that do often find it's full) so go and spend it on booze or more drugsg. Get pissed up, get in a fight, arrested, back to jail. The revolving door theory.

Makes you wonder if prison is the best place for such people.

I couldn't believe how many of them acted like children. That fat girl who kept throwing tantrums so the staff would go and help her. For someone like her national service would probably help her grow up and learn she's not the be all and end all of the universe.

It's a reflection on society that we don't actually have any answers for the revolving door theory. Maybe if we spent less on the workshy dole scroungers and more on decent hostels, soup kitchens and drug clinics and addressing the underlying mental problems many of these people have, the less busy prisons may be.

Alternatively, give them a gun a bullet and a locked room and ask them to do the right thing....

Hahaha. Well south park may have been onto something. Rename operation 'hide behind the darkies' to operation 'hide behind the fatties.'

Give a doctor a hoodie (the item of clothing), and send them out into the community to 'sell' needles full of 'drugs'. Probably not the mix the customer is expecting; you could get the users them to exterminate themselves.

My attitude is they should simply leave her in there with something to make a noose out of and ignore for 24hrs however the staff generally really do care about them and want to help them.

I always think they should bring back chain gang like work teams in prison, you could use them to tend to farms and grow food or something else that is useful. That way you would give the person in jail something to do and make them less likely to want to stay in jail if they have to work each day, doesnt have to be back breaking work just something which keeps them busy which would probably be good for there health.

It wouldnt be such a holiday for them and might actually make some of them when they are released more able to get into a job as they would be used to working.
