Fortunately the criminal justice system doesn't allow the police to assault people. Do you have a problem with that?

What's the problem ?

It's the police job to arrest people, not to abuse them once they are arrested. Until they are convicted they are assumed to be innocent, you don't go beating up innocent people.

Do you want the police to have free reign to abuse whoever they arrest ?

What if they are abuse someone they arrest, but it turns out he had done nothing wrong ? Is that ok ? Is that collateral damage in the war on terror ?

Err...I think the compo was for getting the st kicked out of him as opposed to just being arrested.

Well some of the scrotes they apprehend need a good hiding, not sure I would trust their judgement though.

Far to much money if that is the case he should have been awarded the same as a victim does through the CICB

Thank you, finally someone who agrees with me. I really didn't expect everyone here to take the side of SOMEONE WHO IS BEING DEPORTED FOR OTHER CRIMES.

For the record I am not saying that it is fine for the cops to beat people up. I'm pissed off that
A) The race card has come up
B) He will be in line for more than a soldier who's had his leg blown off.

One thing I am happy with is that because of the rubbish exchange rate at the moment he wont have that much to go back to the US with.

Bit of a difference between 'night in the cells and sent home because they picked up the wrong guy after a bar fight' and 'terror suspect held for a long time and kicked in by arresting officers'.

I'm quite glad the Police aren't really allowed to just beat people up for the hell of it.

Also,

A solider goes to fight and loses a leg. He knows the dangers.

You don't expect to get arrested by the police then have st kicked out of you! The police have a responsibility to the people under their custody and when they not only fail on that responsibility but kick the st out of someone, you have to expect the payout to be sizable.

For your first point, is he guilty of other crimes or is he a suspect, meaning innocent until proven guilty?

A) I've missed the race card being played, unless you mean that the wiley bugger is intentionally 'being foreign' in order to elicit sympathy?

B) Totally different debate IMO. Yes, I think soldiers should receive more compo (though they do choose their careers) but then I also think that the Police shouldn't go around beating the st out of suspects.

Not saying I'm 'on the side' of terror suspects but think you need to try people fairly etc.

Flame proof coat on...

I'd like to see more of it. (not the race thing)

I think if coppers had less paperwork and went in with a heavier hand, just like their European counterparts do, we would see less leary little sts on the street and a damn sight more respect for law and order.

Remember the days when a copper would cuff you around the ear? And people had a little fear and respect for the local bobby?

But then, for that to happen, you would need the whole judicial system behind them. No chance with the old farts who sit on the bench now. Or while that silly bint from Liberty is around, Shakeyouratti, or whatever her face is called.

Feel free....I've got my fingers in my ears

Agreed, but not before they've been convicted. After conviction - then plod should have free license to kick the fk out of them good and proper!

Or you could do some basic research on Babar Ahmed (start here and follow the links)
  • No charges on the original arrest
  • Four and a half years held awaiting extradition
  • No evidence has been presented by either the UK of US governments.
And his alleged co-conspirator (also not charged) in the States was considered suitable to organise a fundraiser for Hilary Clinton's Presidential bid..
