Shropshire is very nice... I am biased of course.

It really depends on your skills / job area. But if you like outdoor things... come on in!

Hi, I'm thinking of returning to England after 3 years in Greece. Great beaches, lots of sunshine & cheap living but it has become a little boring to be honest.
I am aware that the UK has 'gone to censored' lately but I still think that there must be some nice places left.
You seem like a knowledgeable lot on here so please advise me of a suitable area to live in England
Thanks.

East Suusex/Kent has a nice mix of countryside and towns but is very expensive.

There's lots of nice to look at places in the UK...the trouble is you can't get away from this toss government or it's like minded local authorities that just have it in for motorists, regardless of the fact that most people want to use their cars for reasons of privacy and convenience.

Surely it depends on work.

Do you like cities? Coasts? Countryside?

Personally I am a rural person. So would be Yorkshire dales for me

Uke UK has "gone to pot" in the same way as Greece has "gomne to pot", as the Greeks see it. In the same way that France has "gone to pot", as the french think. In the same way as...

Its still a great place to live and work.

Anyhow, as someone else said, what will you do, and what will you like to do outside of work? These will determine a shortlist

Yeah but you only hear about the outrageous incidents or examples of bureaucratic lunacy on there...come on, you remember about press sensationalism surely?! Everyday life here is much as it was before, except with increasingly intrusive traffic laws and a good measure of PC-ness. Sure if you move to a council estate in East Kilbride of inner city London etc you might see/experience some undesirable stuff...but any country with a large city will have the same problem in some areas. Just avoid those few areas.

Your lifestyle will change massively due mainly to the climate.

My wife and I are planning to live abroad within the next 2 years so that by 3 in the afternoon, we're not stuck indoors watching the TV.

The New Forest, rural parts of Somerset and also Devon are nice. I visit those regularly, and have family there so can vouch for those. I'm sure there are lots of other nice places around. Sussex is nice, and I spend a fair amount of time there, but the road rage one gets there is shocking! It would completely put me off living there.

I'd say West Country. Best blend of good atmosphere and feeling of civilisation without being too expensive and busy. Go to East Anglia if you want to buy a bigger house on the cheap, but it's not exactly scenic... more flat. And slightly smelly.

God, no. Cold and wet in winter, cold wet and full of midges in summer, and whats worse its populated by doooor scots.

Come to Wales. Land of your father's? Empty roads (in the middle) warmer than most areas. Friendly natives. In fact, much like England used to be.
