My girlfriend and I have planned a to have some time off over Easter. A week from the Wednesday before to the wednesday after.

I wondered if anyone here has done the Portsmouth-Bilbao ferry? Do people have suggestions or tips for the route? Not sure whether to camp or use B&Bs as cost may be an issue.

I've done Calais/Paris to Nice/Provence many times but have v little experience of western France.

Over to the collective wisdom of PH

Cheers

I'd love to do that again, but SWMBO feels that doing lots of driving with a one year old is daft for some reasonfrown

We drove to the Pyrenees down the west coast a few years ago. It was June and the campsites were still very empty and only part open but it was a great trip. The Isle de Re and Dune de Pila are highlights, as are the Pyrenean roads south of Paudriving

I did the journey on a motorbike in July, travelled all around northern Spain/France/Andorra for a month...

As said above, the roads just south of the Pyranese (n240 etc) are STUNNING. Get a local map and look for the roads marked in green - they are all beautiful scenery and twisty!

Here's a couple of pics taken from the roadside:

ETA: Most B&B's/hostals I stayed in were about 20-40 euros a night - campsites about 8 euros.
