I've had enough of this! Dogs are wonderful, but too many people treat them as "babies", then disperse them when a real baby comes along, and that really saddens me. Dogs are amazing creatures, but they are ANIMALS. This is coming from someone who prefers four legged "Babies" to real ones, but no "babba-baby", or handbag doggie bullst here!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BmUkgmzEhc&fea... (Please watch it if you're interested in this thread!)

A dog's natural intinct is to "pack", and it will do it in any environment. That's why you have too many situations of dogs "ruling the roost", going for kids, etc. FFS, why don't people learn that to bring an animal into their lives, they have to take huge steps to understand the animal in the firstplace? A puppy needs a leader who teaches firmly and kindly, not a fking sprog substitute, to be shoved into a rescue home when something else demands attention. Dogs are scavengers, survivors. They do what they do. It's instinct. They are also mans' best friend; when taught with kindness, intellegence and love, how to adapt to our world and our expectations. My dog saved my life, and no, I'm not going into detail, and no, that's not the only reason for this post.

It's up to the people who bring a dog into their lives to accept the responsibility, the implications, the mess and dirt, along with the good stuff - unconditional love, fun and yes, protection. A dog will die for his "best friend". How many people can say that honestly of their two-legged drinking buddies? Sorry, but I've had enough of reading about "evil dogs"!

What are your thoughts?

If you are an owner of a dog that belongs to a 'dangerous breed' category and you also have a small child please take this as a warning. Don't leave your dog with the child unattended under any circumstances.

Only a little moment was enough for the following to happen. See the photo attached......

this is not my dog, I personally would not let a child do that to one of my animals nor do I condone one being painted in such awful colours

Yep, that pic is about right..... If the dog is raised correctly and incorporated into the pack correctly then it will fight and die for the pack..

Our old GSD wandered into the room once when my nephew strolled over, and grabbed her. He toddled off, then we noticed the bald patch on the dog, he'd yanked out a double handful of fur... Poor mutt. He also used to follow her around and try and swing on her tail. We had to protect the poor dog from him, she didn't ever say a dickey bird about it.

You know what I'm sick of?

When the mods close a thread because it's full of pointless flaming and general nastiness by "noobs" and others who really should know better...starting a follow on thread.

The poster here about the SBT needs to get facts straight, the brred doesnt factor into it much, its the handler. If the handlers a c**t to the dog, the dogs a c**t to others.

Think of it this way, IF yorkshire terriers were used for dog fights not the SBT, would we say that Yorkies are mean dogs and woulnt make good pets etc etc.

I would say you all probably would because you all seem rather closed minded to this sort of thing.

in the news paper a while back a jack russel and a SBT attacked a small child that had been left along with the two dogs.

Front page story 'SBT ATTACKS CHILD UNPROVOKED'

How do they no it was unprovoked?? was someone in the room?? NO and why did the jack russel only get a minor mention.

People always say SBT are mean dogs because of the fact gangs like them as they are a symbol of strength and ruthlessness, and the fact they are the main dogs used in dog fighting.

But when it comes to animals people are generally too closed minded to disagree with what they read in the papers.

Please watch this video

Does anyone else think that looks like those pictures of pigs you used to see in the butchers - the ones that show you where the various bits of pork come from?

Even that Dog Whisperer guy, who is undeniably pretty switched on about dogs, states that there ARE certain breeds of dogs that are bred to be violent and aggressive, and should NOT be left with kids.

So all you people who swear blind your American/Staffordshire pit bull, or whatever the devil dog of choice is this week, be careful. Just because you love your dog, doesn't make his genes different.

Fire away. biggrin

Dog-rants? I'm sick of dogs. They're not really suited to modern day, urban environments.

I'd be very worried if that dog had any bks, it appears to be female.

Whilst I totaly agree with the first bit, I always understood that Staffies were not dog of choice for dog fighing, because whilst they can get agressive towards other dogs, they are not intrinsicaly so. Its the banned "pure" Pit Bull breeds that were/are used in fighting as well as things like; The American Pit Bull, Dogo Argentino and Presa Canario.

But again these all also have loyal followings from experienced dog owners who swear by them. The Dog Whisperer chap uses an American Pit Bull to calm other dogs down and show them how to properly behave!
