My bro and I have inherited 2 rings and had them valued for insurance purposes at £1600 and £800. My wife wants to keep the more expensive one and to sell the cheaper one, effectively buying my brother out.

I am not sure where to sell the cheaper ring, I have never sold jewellery through ebay is it a good market place for rings? Can anyone tell me what a realistic price for the more expensive one is, should I just take 75% of the insurance value as to its street worth or is that being optimistic?

No the insurance valuation is the retail price if you had to replace it at a store. The value is the price it would achieve were you to sell it.

Depending on the age/style of the rings, I have to say that in all probablity the insurance value will bear no resembelence to the market value.

If you can achieve 33% of the insurance value as a cash sale you will be doing very well

Most jewellers would buy it depending on quality etc but dont expect a vast amount compared to the insurance value

Go on Dickenson's Real Deal?

Though as said above, the insurance valuation is in no way reflective of the price you'll get for it.

Insure them for those values then 'lose' them?

Thats what we will do I think. Should get bidders trade and private I suppose, at least a wider market than taking it to a jeweller.

I suspect your Jacko tickets will have a much higher value. If he turns up.
