I keep seeing these ads for 'Text xxxxx number and get yourself a girlfriend or a quick shag (in other words) now they must be making a lot of money out out of them so there must be a lot of peeps texting them.

This afternoon I was talking with a guy who's son had managed to rack up a phone bill mainly texts of £188 in a month (on top of 700 free ones) now this kid (although he is 23) is not the sharpest tool in the box, does not have a lot of friends and wouldn't tell his dad who he was texting so maybe he is one of the peeps who get suckered in with these ads.

I'm too tight to spend money searching for a woman like this, is there anybody out there that has texted any of these 'women' on the ads.
Me being the cynic I am don't for one minute think the female on the other end are anything like the ones on the TV, all t!ts and teeth rolleyes

I don't have a problem pulling em, it's getting rid of them when they have exceeded their 'use by date' that's been difficult

When I see these adds (usually on Five USA after The Sheild and The Beast) I just have to laugh, can anybody really believe they can get anything from these lines?

I usually have to change channel when I see these ads as I can't stand watching a group of potential page 3 girls laughing at a phone nervously whilst a voice over in an annoying essex accent tries to goad you into taking up their offer of "hot young girls in your area".

It makes me cringe.

I am one of those 'local' girls. I work for one of the companies and sit at my computer, for crap pay, chatting to these guys. Some of them are just guys wanting to chat, but some are real creeps, they seem to be photo collectors, as that's all they seem to want from the girls and will methodically work their way through the lists trying to get pics of all the girls. And some of them.... well the way they talk to the 'girls', I actually think we provide a public service keeping them away from real people.

It's not an easy job, you have to be able to read the previous converstaion, any notes on the customer, update the notes and then follow the conversation, usually with a time limit of about 2 minutes to do it all in, and at the same time be creative with your texts to make sure that they come back to carry on chatting. All while fending off requests for real phone numbers, email addresses and meetings.

And we are not all ugly fat girls sat at home stuffing our faces while doing this, some of us do it as its a job that we can do from home, so don't have to worry about childcare etc.

Plus it's the only time in my life that I get to be a busty, leggy blonde :P

There was a thread running on this subject a few months ago, and it got rather funny in parts, but I do have to say right now.... I am not telling you what I am wearing wink

How do strading standards deal with them then? What service do you actually get back?

A fool and his money are soon parted.

Does anyone actually think there are beautiful models sitting around thinking they'd really love to meet up and chat with some bloke who can't even go out of his house and interact with other human beings?

TBH most of the "models" in the ads are pretty grim. What about the ones where it's supposed to be a dating service? They always seem aimed at blokes so where do they get their women from? scratchchin

Exactly the point I was going to make. I you're stupid enough not to work out you've never seen an advert inviting girls "to meet men in their local area" then you deserve to be fleeced. Good luck to the phone companies, I reckon.

Speedchick - I did know you did this. There must be some hilarious ones, no? Plenty of funny stories I bet. How did you get in to it?

These type of phone lines are as old as the hills.

Given the amount of advertising that these and your plain old regular sex lines seem to take out, they must get a sizeable number of responses.

Quite why anyone does actually respond is a mystery to me. How can one be so desperate to communicate with "women in your area", at a cost of £xxxx per reply, God only knows.

I saw an advert in the Tv magazine a couple of years ago looking for fantasy chat operators. I got in touch to see what it was all about and thought I would give it a try.

Yes you do see and hear everything, the worse ones are the ones where the customer can send you pictures of himself, I have seen some downright scary pictures.

There are actually women that text in, looking for blokes to chat to, so we have to be whatever persona the customer thinks they are chatting to. Some of the services are pretty straight forward, but there are fetish ones out there, But, everthing is regulated, and we are not allowed to talk about anything that is illegal, plus some of the services don't allow their operators to chat about certain legal activities.

If you are working a service that has American customers (yes we do get them from all over the world!) then you are not allowed to talk sex full stop, something to do with American regulations (funny really, cos if you are doing the phone services, then anything goes).

The girls in those adverts are utterly horrendous. Some real 7 pinter's.

As for the blokes that actually text in, I can only imagine the level of social skills.laugh

I'll admit being in that category but still wouldn't use such services! I just put on my ninja mask and the world is right again.

How the fk is this legal? sometimes you have to pretend to be guys when it's women that contact you? It sounds like fraud to me, why haven't the been shut down?

Somewhere, in the very small print of the advert (usually hidden on the relavent website) will be a disclaimer, mentioning something along the lines of 'texts will be answered by operators'

Same could apply to the phone lines, you phone someone thinking that they are a fun loving blonde, but in reality, the girl at the other end of the line is a mousy brunette with a very active imgaination. You are not talking to the person you thought you were, but you are talking to the persona (made up person).

As long as there are plenty of notes about the customer and the persona, it can be pretty easy to switch from one to another and keep the conversation going, as long as the customer is happy, they will keep texting back.

Do you really think that the Domme/fetish ones are really like that in real life? I do Domme and Humiliation as a freelancer, I am good at giving out the insults and the orders, but in real life I wouldn't/couldn't talk to someone like that. It's just a case of acting, you need to be the person they think they are chatting to, and as long as you are doing it right, then they keep coming back for more.

The big problem is that information about this is getting out into the big wide world as more people see it as a way of making easy money (it's not.... it can be real hard work, especially with difficult customers), and so as more people wanting to get into the industry find out about how it works, unfortunately so the the customers, but some of them don't seem to care, they have someone texting them with what they want to hear, telling the guy they are doing/wearing what the guy wants, and the guy is happy with the illusion.
