How the stimulus plan will work

Three contractors are bidding to fix a broken fence at the White House. One is from Chicago, another is from Tennessee, and the third is from Minnesota.

All three go with a White House official to examine the fence. The Minnesota contractor takes out a tape measure and does some measuring, then works some figures with a pencil. “Well,” he says, “I figure the job will run about $900: $400 for materials, $400 for my crew and $100 profit for me.”

The Tennessee contractor also does some measuring and figuring, then says, “I can do this job for $700: $300 for materials, $300 for my crew and $100 profit for me.”

The Chicago contractor doesn’t measure or figure, but leans over to the White House official and whispers, “$2,700.”

The official, incredulous, says, “You didn’t even measure like the other guys! How did you come up with such a high figure?”

The Chicago contractor whispers back, “$1000 for me, $1000 for you, and we hire the guy from Tennessee to fix the fence.”

“Done!” replies the government official.

And that, my friends, is how the new stimulus plan will work.

That's pretty much how it works in New Jersey all the time.
The fence was repaired last year but is carried foreward as a line item into the current years budget and offered out again for bidding.

For the average person the stimulus plan means $7.80 extra in the pay packet.
Not sure which part of the economy to inject my windfall intobiggrin

Unfortunately the governer of our state has already spotted that we will be better off. So he has just placed an edict that removes real Estate Tax rebates from most people in the State, except renters who don't pay Real estate tax anyway.
I'm not sure if this guy is Marxist or just plain sadisticsmile
While everyone is groaning and muttering WTF he then removes the R.E. Tax as a deductable on State income tax.
Then he increases the unemployment charge to employers because the last governer a Fa66ot democrat dipped into it and it is now lacking.

Jimbeaux's example is actually more of a stimulus than the reality.

Sadly true. smile Maybe someone could find a stash of the previous light-loafered Governor's "toys" and sell them on Ebay. I bet one of those shower dongs that suction cup to the wall would bring a bundle from the right buyer. biggrin
