Blatantly obvious the UK is on its knees at present. Surrounded by feral types wearing man made fibres, streets littered with the residue of the night before. Housing shagged, business not great and to top it all off , the weather is pants.

So where else would you live in the world? Which country can offer respite from the above?

Bearing in mind you will need to work also!!!!

Cyprus, spotted a gorgeous house for sale just outside Nicosia. Lovely weather, lovely food and they drive on the proper side of the road.

I think Germany and Australia are suffering from the same ills as the UK. New Zealand would be my choice, but after watching the odd 'Relocation' programme on the box, still not convinced....

To a degree yes. There are still nice parts left in both, though I do agree and believe that Aus will deteriorate over the coming years.

NZ, Canada or Tobago then, I can live with that.

Looks like its Tobago then! Not sure what the chances are for a 50 year old bloke flogging flat screens!

If you have the money then you can retire out there, buy a little place etc.. A few people have done it.. Selling TVs? I don't think you'll make a living that way.....................

I've been thinking about this a LOT, and it is an inescapable fact that apart from

- awful, awful weather
- chavs and celebrity culture
- overzealous lawmakers

we probably do live in one of the best countries on earth.

After watching Billy Connolly's edge of the world I'd say Canada would be a fantastic place to live.

Reading the title before I opened the thread, I honestly expected it to be in reference to the Pie & Piston!

I really like the wilderness aspect of it myself. Cities tend to all be similar in my opinion but the vast expanses of forest, mountains and lakes is what really inspires me.

Why do people keep mentioning Tobago ? Just because its cheap or does it have a good standard of living ? I know its going to be hot and has beaches, etc, but so does a lot of places - serious question. I'm already packing my suitcase..........

Don't be so bloody silly!

Everyone knows everywhere else in the world is better than Britain. And the people who know it best are the people who've never lived anywhere else. wink

I've lived in the US, OZ, France amongst others and was born in Germany (on British soil wink ) and they all have their good and bad points, but overall for me Blighty has the edge and will have a much bigger edge when we fix the damage done since 1997.

Because it is a fantastic place to be. Friendly people etc, beautiful wildlife.. Good standard of living? For people with money it is ok, for the locals, not so. Put it this way, the shop we went to didn't have enough money to change a $20 note. We just bought loads more stuff so she didn't have to give us change. The diving is not too bad either. TBH I'd prefer to live on a maldivian island BUT that's not as possible as buying a place on Tobago (Oh, Ian Fleming used to live there too).

RichyB - yep, I lived in Alberta.. Mountains and lakes a few hours drive away from our house, and loads of open space all around....

It's the weather here I don't like about the UK, I find that I'm MUCH happier in the summer when its nice out than in the winter, is that worth moving over though? Seems trivial...
