Sky News just announced that the guy who threw the shoe at Dubbya is to be jailed for 3 years in Iraq.

Georgey, to his credit, dealt with the incident very well; laughing it off seemed the best response.

So, would it be better for us all, to pardon the guy?

What is gained by locking the fella up? Not much as I see it.

Releasing him would be a great PR boost for the West, if we could imply that it was due to pressure from the White House..

Do you agree?

Say this happened in the UK - a guy threw a shoe at Tony Blair or Gordon Brown. Would he get thrown in jail? If we're promoting freedom of speech and democracy out there we should punish the guy the same he'd get over here or in the US.

I suspect he'd be jailed over here, but probably not for 3 years.

It's not that different from Mandy's slime encounter though.......

In his culture to throw your shoes is a big insult.

It seems if you look at a Muslim in a funny way it is an insult to Islam. Even Christmas is apparently insulting to them.

They can burn our flags and make ethergies of our leaders etc etc.

How can they expect respect from the West when they have no respect for anything outside their own religion.

So what good will this sentence do ? Maybe send a message that you should treat other countries / relgions with some respect if you expect the same.

Prisoner swap with the Lentiist who slimed Mandy would be a fair outcome.

To take your points in turn:
Right.
Wrong.
Wrong.
Right.
Arguable.
Probably not.

He missed Bush, twice. Three years for failure. Seems fair.

Agreed, it'd have been piss funny to see a shoe ricochet off Bush's face.
