Chocolate doesnt make people fat. Eating too much chocolate makes people fat, and taxing chocolate is NOT going to stop fatties eating it!
Why do they not tax butter, cheese, haribo, crisps, macdonalds, KFC, Pizza Hut etc.
Heard this on the radio this morning, utter tosh. Why do they not tax butter, cheese, haribo, crisps, macdonalds, KFC, Pizza Hut etc.
You've said pretty much what my thoughts are, if they tax chocolate then they have to tax everything that is remotely fattening, ie most foods.

They are the biggest contributors to obesity, which in turn costs the NHS (so us) more than smoking and drinking related illness.
Only problem is that in reality it would just be another cynical tax by the government

It's only a teensy weensy point, as I agree that the tax-everything mentality is especially prevalent in this government and for various reasons I hate them from the very depths of my soul. Why does this government feel the need to tax EVERYTHING that they don't want people to have? However, credit where credit is due - it's a Scottish GP that's pushing this. Nothing to do with the government. Yet, anyway

I do disagree whole heartedly with the nanny britain stance on taxing things which when used in excess cause problems.
As someone has said, why not give tax breaks to those of us who activley seek exercise?

50% of the population wouldn't notice. The other 50% would go ballistic. Half the voters is quite a lot...
