Made the mistake of trying to be a "good" citizen and use freecycle, here is my experience...

Had advertised a single pine bed on freecycle, had contact from a "single" mother who said she would arrange pick up of the bed last week. All last week she messed me about with me waiting in at the weekend for her to pickup.
So today I text her telling her can she or can she not get transport to come get the dismantled bed? She replied that she couldnt and was sorry, so me being dheaded and helpful borrowed the OH's C4 Picasso and drove the 3 miles to drop the bed off for this lady.
Only to pull up outside a typical Chavsion (chav mansion) which was painted very badly in a white paint and had 2 fricken wagon wheels on the wall with a whole host of other ste stuck to the wall. It had a satellite dish and double glazing and a nice plasma through the lounge window
. And lo and behold on the drive was a fking 1 year old ford focus estate, brand new with disabled stickers on it. I asked her why couldn't she use that car to pickup the bed, and the cheeky replied "cause I been busy". So I dumped the parts of the bed on her drive and walked off, taking the little bag of all the fixings for the bed. She obviously realised and was running after my car in the rear view mirror.....disabled my arse......Just a fat cow!

Was my only pleasure to throw the fittings for the bed in the bin when I got home. Now had 6 texts ranging from her fury at me "dumping" the bed on her drive to her begging for the fixing kit as her kids wont be able to goto bed tonight now cause of the cruel man tonight.....Lazy workshy bh and her brood.

Why are people such s really?? Messed me about for 8 days and didn't even try and make an effort..

You don't have to give it to the first person who answers, you know. I have a very low tolerance for time-wasters, and if one doesn't turn up when they say they will it gets offered to the next.

clap Good work... but now you have to take it the next level a la Ikea Flat Pack

...Drop the fixing kit off with a note saying you misplaced it, only it find it a few days later, but take one (vital) screw out.

Thanks for posting, entertaining story. Been using Freecycle for a while now to offload stuff i cant sell/cant be bothered to sell. Always seem to get dozens of people responding within hrs even for low grade stuff. Never offered to deliver mind, and wont now after reading that!

Freecycle is a well-intentioned but badly managed and thought through initiative, largely promoted (but rarely used) by the sandal brigade.

Most council run household waste recycling centres now offer good, proper schemes to enable you to drop off stuff at a single site and offer stuff at a nominal price to those that want it – Devon is particulalry good on this.

She has the general location of my house but not the actual street of house number, as she was meant to call me on her mobile when she got close as I would have had to direct her from the main road.

Just furious that I rushed home from football and was still all kitted up in football kit when I dropped it off as she had texted saying her kids were going to bed at 8pm (it was about 7pm when I dropped the bed off). So had gotten home and rushed about sorting out the bed for her thinking I was doing a good deed for someone who really was in need.

We live and learn as they say.....

Anyone want a computer desk in the manc area? biggrin

i've used freecycle quite a lot - got rid of an entire house contents via there. much easier than taking it to the tip.

however, i am amazed that people will travel to pick up old worn out item - eg beds.

though can get annoying if i leave good out and some people can't even be bothered to say thanks.

Freecycle is great.

You just have to have a strict no messing about approach to it.

Black list this lady. Never deal with her again. If anyone else tries it on then put the offered item straight back on the website for the next person.

If someone offers you something and messes you around then never deal with them again either.

The only exceptions are if you have good previous experience and their actions are a one off lapse.

Sorted.

we use it quite a lot too.
Im currently collecting building materials to use as hardcore for the new garage.

all the people we have delt with have been greatful and pleasant to deal with. We have given away literally hundreds of pounds worth of baby clothes we no longer need and all have gone to good homes.

Our local Freecycle moderators are good too. They activly will kick people off the group for time wasting and moderate the number of "Wanted" ads people can post on a month basis.

Cheaper than going to the dump as has been said.
