You can call me Richard Hammond if you like but years of red wine & coffee have turned my teeth yellow and I'd like them to be a few shades whiter.

Do any of the DIY products work without turning me into Ross from Friends or Shane McGowan or should I pay hundreds of quid to a dentist?

If you go the professional route, it's much cheaper in Europe/abroad.

Why not try it out and report back.

If that fails then go to a dentist or speak to peterpeter here on PH as he's into that professionally.

Are you sure it was emulsion?

I have a feeling that enamel yellows naturally with age, so you're not necessarily removing 'stains' but wanting to bleach the natural product.

I got bukkaked, face like a wallpaperers radio.

Actually, I didn't, nor did I paint my teeth with dulux. Honest.

Hi there,

From personal and professional experience, 'whitening' toothpaste is a big con, and veneers/in-house lightening is costly but worthwhile if you are able to afford it. An old colleague of mine had veneers which, although look amazing, are too white to the point that they look blue-ish!!!

I managed to find a DIY kit in Superdrug for under a tenner (Brilliant White methinks) which actually works, although it does contain a bleaching agent which is activated when the gel and liquid are combined, so careful not to burn your gums off!

Whitening can also lead to an increase in sensitivity...no, I didn't mean that the recipient will come over all soppy and 'feel' wimmin's emotional torment!!

Good lucksmile

On a similar note - I neither owned nor used any products related to teeth whitening. HTH.

Does not compute...did you think that I was a sales rep or summink or have I misunderstood your post??
Mmm, just googled Crest White Strips, and they sell them in UK. I like this idea of 'magic sellotape for toothypegs' Has anybody actually used these yet?

my dentist told me a couple of weeks ago that any DIY toothcare product that claimed to do anything more than clean the surface crap off was basically a bunch of bks.

The whiteners do not contain enough / strong enough solutions of bleach to whiten, the enamel can't be filled or made harder by toothpaste etc etc etc.

He also said he wouldn't often perform cosmetic stuff as it's pointless, so not exactly on a sales pitch either.

From everyone I spoke to, these were the best. Why are they not sold over here?

Well he would wouldn't he as he's in business to make money? wink

Oddly enough, my local Mazda dealer discourages me from servicing my own car as well! hehe
