Do all Labour governments leave UK PLC on its knees?
Discussion
Has any Labour Governement left office with the UK econony in a better shape than when they entered office?
In my lifetime the last Labour government was palgued by strikes and the'Winter of Discontent' - they left the UK bankrupt having been begging to the IMF...
When the Conervatives were kicked out of office in 1997 UK PLC was in a far better state than when they entered office.
When Brown leaves this will not be the case.

The Conservatives could do worse than use the old "Labour isn't Working" poster from the last time the Shower of s
te were in power...

ETA: Oh, they already did...

Mrs Orb(s) voted Labour in 1997 - I'll never let her forget it. My income has been smashed to bits due to IR35 and Indian sub-continent software developers (the latter may or may not be Labours policy fault, IR35 sure is though) and now I have no work at all.

A lot of firms are now discovering that "Indian sub-continent software developers" have got more expensive over the last year due to Sterlings weakness.....Edited by Orb the Impaler on Wednesday 11th March 10:02
Many have also found that maintaining the crap quality of software produced by them is neither easy nor coast effective...

For the first time ever I have seriously thought about leaving the UK. I can't believe I even thought it, i loved this country, but sadly Brown's Britain just isn't a vision I can buy into, even if there is a vision. Oh yes there is
1. Never admit your wrong
2. Tax and spend till your heart is content.
3. Then spend some more!
4. Lick America's balls to the extent I feel sick in my stomach. I like America but do we have kiss arse like this government makes us
5. Spend some more, don't forget your childrens children will be paying for this party
6. PRint money when your goose is cooked
7. Set up an investigation run by one of your men, whenever anything goes wrong so you can say I'll wait for the report, report to be published on a "bad news" day as to not make you look silly.
8. Spend more tax payers money on something....
9. Ensure all chav families help themselves to free anything and everything they want.
10. Pretent to be tough on crime but not give a monkeys about it.
11. Did I mention spend some more cash? Only tax payers money, go on spend some more!
Rant over, bring on the election, if the country will be capable of holding one by then....

The whole world works in a cycle of boom and bust.
In a two party system the ruling party can expect 2 or maybe three terms in power before they are rejected by the people.
This happened to the conservatives last time and now labour is getting their chance of being the village idiots in charge when the ship sails towards disaster.
The next conservative government will have the right to blame the previous government for the state of the country for its entire first term.

Isn't your statement in a similar vein to commenting that everything is always in the last place you look?
If the economy was in a better position than when the current government took over, it's highly unlikely that they'd lose an election. Someone may well point out where I'm completely wrong (I'm only a young'un, after all), but I'd expect most governments - whether labour, conservative or liberal - didn't get voted out when the country was in marvellous shape.

The last Conservative Gummint did, but that was due to the great unwashed (;) ) being "fed up" with sleaze. If the economy was in a better position than when the current government took over, it's highly unlikely that they'd lose an election. Of course, all gummints since have been whiter than white, because Tony said they would be.
