I'm trying to book a short break to take my wife to Cornwall for a few days, possibly next month.

I enjoy a cigarette, and am having trouble finding anywhere that allows this now, and I'll be stuffed if I'm going to pay to stand outside !

I am possibly the only one left who will not pay for a drink and stand outside a pub !

Anybody know of anywhere ?

(and don't bother with anti smoking crap....I'll only be rude in my reply)

Many thanks to anyone that can help

Go for a break in Amsterdam. If you don't want to get off your face most coffee shops won't notice/don't care if you're smoking tobacco.

Why do you think you are goig to find somewhere thats going to allow you to break the law and risk a fine for doing so. Its Cornwall not another country.

No. If you find anywhere let us know. I've given up looking in the UK. I was banned from a 'private' dining room three weekends ago when, after the main course at 10:45PM I moved to go outside for my usual inter course fag and was told that if I exited, they were locking the doors and I would not be allowed back in...

To me, that was a new, particularly special fascism.

I'm not sure if this is fact, but isn't smoking in hotel rooms up to the hotel owners discretion? Not sure if I read this or part of another drunken pub night. I seem to recall that you are 'buying' the room for the night and in that case it could be deemed as being your property. Might be a load of bks though

yes spot on, I've stayed in several hotels lately where they still had smoking rooms, both fancy new ones and ropey old ones (all 3 and 4 star hotels)

It's all down to the hotel company policy.

Even as a smoker I can see why they dont want people smoking in thier hotel, after a few years it really does ruin the room, stained walls, everyone is careless and burns furniture etc.

Holiday Inn still have smoking rooms, thank goodness. Unfortunately I don't think there are any in Cornwall.

Thats what you think.

Had some work done by the local sparks last year and I commented on his upbeat demeanour and his professional approach to the job in question, remarking particularly that London tradesmen and women are generally a pretty miserable bunch. His reply - "well you're not in England now".......

Despite what many of the locals may think hehe

D'oh beaten to it!

When my Mum was in her last job she used to have to ask people's nationality and the number who said 'Cornish' was ridiculous. She used to write 'English' just to piss them off. rofl

I would like to smoke the occasional cig inside. But I share the view of many that I don't want to be drowned in smoke the rest of the time!

There goes Austria from my holiday destination list then.

I can't believe how much better my socialising has been since the smoking ban.

Not judging you, just saying....

This is correct, although there are a lot which say that it is banned in their rooms, and if they think you have been they will 'fine' you £150 for professional cleaning (read open windows and put a plug in in the socket for 24 hours and not rent the room the following night).

They do get a little upset though when you offer to pay the 'fine' in advance hehe

I hear smoking outside is nice the summer.

But why do the people with the worst lungs have to stand outside in the winter..
