Due to various predictions - Nostradamus alegedly said so, Aztecs not bothering with a '2012' in their calendar as it 'Wouldn't be needed' etc etc - the World will be ending in approx 2 years.

Before you prepare yourselves and your loved ones, anyone want to guess the answer to the Ultimate Question:

The End of The World Will Be Caused By...

There are many strange things that defy explanation, like when Klingons space ships meet the Federation space ships, they both use the same 'Up' to orientate their vessels.

That has hacked me off for years.

Will this be before or after the Olympics? I think we aught to know.

It's called "common courtesy". I mean, when the Klingon commander appears on Kirk's big HD widescreen monitor, it would be just bad manners if he appeared upside down.

Must be some kind of galactic-wide up and down..

Damn, that's one I missed - maybe the End of The World is caused BY The Olympics!

Somebody tried to re-map a 335d that had already been re-mapped and the resulting power caused a tear in the space-time continuum.

Forget that - the plane of the ecliptic in a galaxy only has two options, so there's a 50-50 chance (it's pretty logical that spacefarers WOULD use the plane of the ecliptic as a standard axis).

What p'd me off more was the way they always "flew" in space (manoeuvred like a plane), and that they never had to flip the ships over to slow down. Watch e.g. Babylon 5 and you'll see a much better representation of space-warfare* - craft which make no bones about 'aerodynamics', rotating to fire axis-aligned weaponry without changing the velocity of the craft, 180-degree rotation to slow down, etc...

And how to these 'scanners' work anyway...the quickest detection device in space is the eyeball...attached to a telescope, naturally! (Why...well e.g. radar will take twice as long...beam goes out THEN comes back! Plus it gives away your location to the enemy before you get the chance to see them...think active sonar but across minutes/hours/days not the seconds of submarine warfare...in fact, I suggest space warfare would be like a time-delay version of submarine warfare!)

* Well, space warfare at low-speeds. Once you get past ~0.1-0.2c, then the time-delay in spotting the enemy would make it a complete lottery and down to guesswork. Oh...and you'd never be able to spot the enemy at warp-speed...physics wouldn't permit it...not until you hit them, anyway! biggrin

I can see the conversation going like this:

Klingon Navigator "Sir, they still refuse to fly in the true Klingon 'Up'"
Klingon Captain "fk me if we are going to shift to suit their gay Federation 'Up' - arm the disruptors!"

Meanwhile...

Uhura "Captain, they say that unless we alter our orientation, they will, and I quote, 'Blast us out of the heavens!'"
Kirk "Oh, whatever, if it makes them happy. But make it look like we fly like that anyway."

What if Toptune got hold of said 335d and worked his magic on it, I think the same thing would occur!

Er, surely that only applies if you're on the M25 (Milky Way 25) Orbital. If one ship was diving 'downwards' to a planet at 45 degrees (say travelling to a planet lower in the mass, and another coming to meet it, then there would be no epileptic to follow.
