Ministers 'using fear of terror'

A former head of MI5 has accused the government of exploiting the fear of terrorism to restrict civil liberties.
Dame Stella Rimington, 73, said people in Britain felt as if they were living "under a police state" because of the fear being spread by ministers.

"It would be better that the government recognised that there are risks, rather than frightening people in order to be able to pass laws which restrict civil liberties, precisely one of the objects of terrorism - that we live in fear and under a police state," she said.

How bloody true that is for us in this country. Sleepwalking into a Nanny/Police State. A small erosion of liberty here, a few more ill-conceived laws introduced there, and before you know it...
The best way to take control over a people and control them
utterly is to take a little of their freedom at a time, to erode
rights by a thousand tiny and almost imperceptible
reductions. In this way the people will not see those rights
and freedoms being removed until past the point at which
these changes cannot be reversed - Adolf Hitler

She's absolutely right!
The so-called "war against terror" is being used in the UK as nothing less than "war against dissent". It's pathetic the way law after law is being made to stop anyone questioning or challenging what the government, local authorities etc decide they want to do.

"Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. This is easy. All you have to do is tell them that they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for a lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in every country." - Herman Göring.utterly is to take a little of their freedom at a time, to erode

As Dame Stella whiles away her state funded retirement in sunnier climes, reflecting a past carreer
built on anti - Soviet paranoia and the troubles in Ulster , she should realise what a bloody easy ride she had.
No home-grown suicide bombers to deal with in her day and the IRA weren't really that difficult to keep tabs on.
What's she giving interviews for now? Promoting another volume of her memoirs?

The other repost to this is that we are suggesting that our politicians and government have the collective brains, intelligence and wit to actually string together a plan of action and subsequently execute it, being careful to retain the fear of terror. I think we are actually being rather generous here and the fact that our illustrious leaders couldn't fight their way out of paper bag suggests that this is just merely wishful thinking.
I think the reality is rather mixed, but to suggest this is all part of a carefully instigated plan is a little far fetched.

And so we see Brown blaming bankers as Adolf blamed the Jews.
