Well the time has come.

After months of training - mainly consisting of carb loading and not much running, my rather rash thought of entering this event has become a reality.

For any of you who are not familiar with the event have a gander at www.toughguy.co.uk

Granted, it sounds like a gay porn web site, and to be honest I wish it was!

So, I'm packed and ready to hit the road ready to brave freezing cold water, exhaustion and severe cramp yikes

Are there any other PH's entered for this years event?

Don't know anyone entering this but a few of my friends are doing a 6km swim in Scotland on the sunday before the london marathon, then riding Scotland to London over 5 days and then running the London marathon on the Sunday!

You are all mad!

I'll be there with 2 other mates. Really not looking forward to it now the temperature has been getting colder each day! Should be a laugh but at the same time painful!!

Not this year, old bean - screwed my ankle on my second time 2 years ago - never again - utter madness.

Good luck, hope you don't freeze your bits off hanging around waiting to do obstacles and go slow and safe...

never again, cut my hands to ribbons, don't worry though there are medics to pull the bodies off the course.

get out in one of the early groups or it will take you hours.
Most of that time will be spent waiting on the obstacles freezing your tits off
I did this about 10 years ago, before we set off they had to smash the ice on all the water obstacles yikes so spent plenty of time freezing my tits off.
Couldn't hold a cup of hot chocolate in the end, spilt it all I was shaking with cold that much.

They add obstacles each year. In 2007 I got hyperthermia (along with 600 others), but loved the event. You stand for long times at the obstacles unless you are very quick.

My tips:
Take a swimming hat and a normal hat.. both pay dividends
Take some good gloves or buy them when you get there... and tape them on.. lose a glove and it's tough on the ropes.
Prepare to be very cold for 2-3 hours unless you are quick.
Have fun, it's a brilliant event

I did the Summer one last Year- but will give it a miss this year. Couple of mates did the Winter one- back in Jan/Feb and it snowed on the morning of the event... not good.

Good luck!

This sounds really cool. Never heard of it before but would love to try it once. Is there a time limit to go round in or is it own pace?
