Mick & Margaret, top neighbours thumbup

Mick's had a bypass, and currently runs around with a pacemaker, yet still the charming old Irish fella still finds time to clean my car yesterday whilst it was left at home all day (not the first time either).

He also gets my bins in, closes my gates and sometimes weeds my drive.

I usually take a bottle of wine round this time of year, just to say thank you.

Pretty much all our neighbours are top class, everyone within sight of the house we talk to, borrow stuff off each other, although don't go as far as socialising, mainly due to the large variance in ages (we're the youngest by 15 years)

Anyone else got good neighbours (or bad ones) ?

next door are 3 poles who have minimal knowledge of english, they came here to get a better job and are going back to poland to do some naff job, what u get for not bothering to learn English smile

other guy has moved in with his partner

other side is a couple with some young girls, they had a habit of being outside in the summer at 6am+ screaming, banging their drums, so spoke with the father and asked him to stop them screaming their heads off so early. He got the hump with that and shrugged / told him that he would need to explain what it all means... almost shouted at the little dears, something along the lines of shut the fk up and he would have to tell them what it means..

after that they got let out at 8:30 onwards, which is not too bad.

rest of the neighbours are fine smile

To the right i have iranian drug dealers, to the left and empty property. Across the road an old woman with a blue badge who parks simply dreadfully and likes to peer out the window for around six hour a day.

Always happy for a chat, feeds the cat when were away, we look after their dog.
Bought our son a very nice gift on his 1st birthday.

Mine are lovely too, the old boy sorts out my garden and the lady cooks my dinner at least twice a week, plates it up and hands it over the fence when I get home!

The couple who live in the flat below me are lovely, have the occasional chat with them when I bump into them, which is a nice change as my Mum's neighbours are truly horrible.

For example, we had a builder round to take off a bit of the brick wall that is at the top of the drive so we could fit 3 cars on there. Only a 30 minute-ish job with an angle grinder. A fair amount of dust was produced as expected, some of which landed on Victor Meldrew's car nextdoor, which was parked on the street. Muchos commotion ensued, as he was 'forced' to park his car on his drive, away from the dust.

I came outside to see what the fuss was about, which ended up with him squaring up to me which I found rather amusing (he's about 80), calling me a 'big oaf' and stating that I have never done anything for this country! All for saying "Is everything OK out here?"

Not as exciting to comment on as some topics, but it's the season of goodwill and I thought i'd share it.

It's amazing how much nicer a home can be when you have decent neighbours, even the lady a few doors down sat inside our house for a couple of hours one evening when the wife had gone out left the light on and somehow managed to lock the door not in the catch, so it was left wide open. Her husband noticed when he was walking his dog.

Top stuff really, the more I think about it, the more lucky I realise we are.

Most of ours are okay except for fugwat and ting tong (not their real names by the way)

We have a shared lawn and garage area between the 8 150 year old houses. Our bins are kept by the garages, to one side out of the way of cars coming in and out. Ting tong for some reason needs 3 wheelybins to everybodies 1 (2 adults 1 child - go figure) But still she fills these and starts dropping her stty nappies in other peoples bin.

After several polite requests asking her to refrain from this being ignored, we told her that in future if she continued, she will find her crap on the doorstep.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, we followed up our threat.

Our decent neighbours informed us that the police made 4 attemps at contacting us before dropping a note through our door saying we should be more neighbourly.

Hopefully ting tong and fugwat will get fed up of not having anyone to talk to and move on.

We are very lucky, we close the street once a year and hold a street BBQ and almost everyone joins in, everyone makes an effort to get on.

I live in a block of about 50 flats and am friendly with a lot of the neighbours. We have BBQs in the shared garden and hang out socially. It's much different to any other flats I've lived in.

There are still a few scrotes around though who don't think twice about dumping a double bed out by the shared bins, or sticking non-recyclables into the recycling bins which means they don't get picked up.

Our neighbours are good. Younger couples and the ladies are very attractive as well as having a pleasant personality - which is nice. We 3 couples have the odd meal together or beer/wine in one of the gardens.

Next door, couple we socialise with, she cuts my hair for a cup of coffee, I helped him did his footings, he lends me tools and his pick-up if need be etc and we generally get on very well. He works away so occasionally I take his son to school for them if she is ill/has to wait on for deliveries.

Across the road, very nice but also very rich people who spend time overseas and in London. Him Aston, her RR. Obviously out of my league.

Next door again Prince of Darkness. Social enough but a bit arrogant and he gives Mrs BandB the creeps. He drives like a nutter up and down the shared drive and generally rides roughshod ove the elderley neighbour. His wife is quiet until sex is mentioned when she perks up no end. Give them a wide berth.

Elderly neighbour, flys the union or county flag on a pole. Lets me use his tap to wash out the drains and gutters as long as I tidy up aftermyself. Alcoholic I think.

Next door brilliant. Summer is a time for joint projects, fences, ponds, doing each others lawns when away and many drunken bbq's. Other side a tax inspector rage He actually admitted to checking us out prior to moving in. Information which we have stored for future use. OH was investigated, coincidentally by an inspector with the same unusual surname as the neighbour. Brother methinks.

On his other side the guy is great. He spent years restoring a GT6 in his garage and first we knew was when he fired it up. He and wife close friends now.

As I've been working on my car on the driveway over the past year, I've met the same amount of neighbours then I have over the past 20years! I'm sure they all have a stronger opinions on me now too either way hehe

One side I have Phil and Francis, they are 60ish now, they've been there longer then we have, and are very nice, Always gave me birthday presents as a child and Francis makes me a lovely cake every year smile I taught Phil how to use a computer when he first got one and answered a lot of questions about it, was very happy to help them. Get on with all their family too.

The other side is Richard and Helen, they have been there about 6-7years now, had a son in that time (about 5-6 yr old), who is a whiney thing and fairly annoying. They started off ok, but have turned out to be annoying now. After I got my car started for the first time in 11months, he came out within 2 minutes, I thought he was going to congratulate me, but he complained it was smelly and fumes went in his house (er close your windows then...) and that it was noisy and his son was going to bed soon (it was 5pm in September FFS!)

Across the road is Lynne and Finley, recently retired. Lynne always looks out the window for trouble or something (we're in a cul de sac), and always comes out to do her front garden when something happens (like an ambulance outside or something) but doesn't say much. Finley keeps himself to himself.

Next to them is a new couple, don't know their names who just had 2 kids, they say hi nown and then and seem nice enough, the bloke said 'its about time!' when he saw I got my car running smile

Before them in that house was Barry (70ish) and his wife, they were really nice too and had a nice dog, when the dog died they sold the house and went travelling across Europe in a caravan.

Next to them is a foul bloke who first approached me asking how long to I finish the car, I thought he was being friendly at first, but then he said he hated me for banging a hammer on it so much and got stty. Not spoke to him since.

There is a bloke around the corner with a ice cream van, he always asks how the car is getting on too, walks around with young daughter in push chair, seems nice enough.

There is also a bloke up the road with an Areg black transit, still unsure of his name, but spoke to him a few times now, he shows interest in what I'm doing on the car, as he's always out welding his Transit, used to weld ships in the navy and seems to just be a handy man now (saw him walk past me with a wheelbarrow full of garden tools).

My next door neighbour made a complaint about the level of parking and car repairs going on recently by way of a letter to the owner of the house thats being rented the other side of me (after a couple of polite words). Found his garage locks were then superglued up and needed a new door. Nice.

Thing is it was another gobby little neighbour who did it when it was nothing to do with him. I hope it doesn't turn into a nasty neighbourly dispute where things get damaged in the dark of night. rolleyes

Neighbours - who needs 'em.
