Thought I'd review the finances at the end of this year. Got a letter from EDF Gas stating that a review of my account meant my gas charges would rise from £150 to £170 per month. A little annoyed about that I was.
Then I noticed that the account was £730 in credit anyway. So I phoned them up asking why my fees were going up since the account was in credit I was obviously already overpaying and some.
"Ah... Good point" they said. "err...let us give you some money back".
Got the monthly charges down to £145 a month + they are repaying the £730. Bunch of b
d crooks- suggest you all check your bills carefully too.

Thats expensive - or I'm under paying - I pay about £96 a month for a 4 bed detached - 2 kids - baths every night etcThen I noticed that the account was £730 in credit anyway. The feckers have upped mine too and after phoning them this morning I've been told it's incorrect and that is an over-estimation on their part. Apparently they can't do anything about it today as my payment is going through and it throws their computers off track.
As said above, check your bills and make the call even if it seems to add up. They are robbing barstewards and need to be stopped with Government intervention.

Heating and water + 5 bed old house + 3 young children. It is high though....hmmm.
Each month for the past four months I've had a letter from EDF telling me they're upping my direct debit despite the fact I'm currently £90 in credit for gas. Each month I call them with an accurate reading and have to haggle over what my next month's DD will be. 
'Oh, but we want to ensure you pay the same every month throughout the year, and our prices went up 22% in October'
I'm looking for another provider, but it seems to be a right hassle to switch...

I read on the news that Ofgem (or whatever they are called) are considering an investigation... ok...
It's basically de-risking on their part, they want to ensure that you have the funds to clear massive bills easily, that and that fact that they are making considerable amounts of money in interest - on *your* money
I don't think I've ever not been in credit with British Gas, the top excuses for not giving my money back to me are:
BG: You'll need the excess in winter sir, as you'll use more gas.
Me: It *is* winter you tit, now gimme my money
BG: Yes, but wholesale gas prices have gone up 36% this year.
Me: Yes, And I'm paying 40% more each year, can I have some money back now?
BG: Er, no. We could really use the interest you see, because not everyone we supply is as sad and you are, actually paying us and all... You're basically keeping me in a job, and paying for those who don't fancy paying this month cos the catalogue man has just been...
Me: WFT, give me my money!
BG: Would you be interested in HomeCare sir..?
Me: [hung up]

I had this problem with Electricity AND gas supply - was hugely in credit and struggled to get it back. I had to threaten to report them to the Ombudsman before a cheque was forthcoming.Then I noticed that the account was £730 in credit anyway. ks to Direct Debit...Dont get me started, i had the same conversation with EDF only a week ago.......
Our Gas DD is £50 per month, and we get a letter saying that the DD is going up to.................................£150 per month!!!!!??????
I rang, asked them to put it down, they said they would, this month.........EDF took £150!!! Absolute joke, make sure you check your account, as they say they will change it, but being automated, half the time its a load of cr@p....

Apologies but this is partly incorrect. I ranted at Scottish Power on Monday and got my direct debit (which had been about £95 per month and was going up to £115 per month) reduced to "only" £108 per month. I keep reading that due to the slump in oil prices that the costs should come down next year. Any likelihood of this happening?
