Anyone going Snowboarding or Skiing this year?

I am a 47 year old Snowboarder and have been boarding now for 16 years. Myself and 50 mates are off to St Anton in March on our annual trip. I also have a two week trip planned for the family at our place in Whistler Canada. Our group have been boarding and skiing together now for 16 years. If I had no ties I think I would spend my year chasing the snow I love it that much.

Does anyone else have trips planned this year?

I've always fancied Canada, what's Whistler like, is it very expensive?

A week in Val T in January. Only my second time on one plank, and the first time was two years ago. I'm expecting plenty of bruises.

I am going away 28th Feb for a week with the Mrs. Not sure yet . . going to look for some bargains next year!

Road trip down to one of the french resorts (cham again I expect) with a few mates is on the cards for early 09, done it a few times now, usually to chamonix and it's always been great fun doing it that way

I loved it so much I bought a place there. It is a great resort with two wonderful mountains. You will never get bored. This year they are opening the Peak to Peak Gondola which will make the place even better. The village is purpose built and again it’s is very nice. Loads of stuff to do even if you don’t ski.

As for the cost, it’s not that bad, but can be affected by the value of the pound.

A lot of people say it can be very cold but in the 10 times I have been I have never been uncomfortable.

And last but not least the snow is great; they had nearly 40 feet last year

Val T is pretty good, you'll enjoy it, be sure to go on the kicker with the air mat for a landing plus they have decent kebab shops and a smattering of stray dogs. I don't believe there is any correlation between the 2 though.

I've always crossed off staying in Val T. Where it is so high up, they have some problems now and again getting people to and from the airport. When we travelled back our flight was delayed 3 hours waiting for the Val T passengers.

Our rep once told us how they got stuck for 20 or so hours once. On the coach. Lovely.

Although the saving grace is that they always have decent snow.

Was in Tignes 2 weeks ago, in Pyrenees over Christmas.


La Plagne at Beginning of February. Possible trip to Jackson Hole if have time in March.

Should be fun.

looking to head somewhere next year, not sure where exactly but thinking of Whistler or Tahoe.

done a few of the big french resorts and also been to Banff a couple times and loved it.

Be heading out myself though, so prefer english speaking countries (my french is pretty rubbish)

I went to Whistler in Feb 06 and it was £800 approx per person for schedule flights, transfers and a twin bed apartment. Obviously on top of that you've got ski pass and all food. The Skiing/Snowboarding is amazing though, 2 mountains huge range, awesome powder, 2 dedicated ski/board parks with ramps, kickers, rails and halfpipes, dedicated tubing area, and all new fast lifts. Highly recommended.

I'm in Val Thorens in January too. I'm there the week starting on the 17th. We were there the same time last year and there's so much to do there we decided to return. I'm looking forward to exploring the 3 Valleys!

Sadly not. Work commitments prevent me from going on a ski holiday this year. Or any other holiday for that matter I suspect.

I hear they've got lovely powdery conditions in Italy right now. Jealousy is a bad thing...

Like clockwork me and the boys (group numbers fluctuate between 8-14) are doing our January trip. Off on the 9th to Meribel. Val (x2), La Tania (x2), Les Arcs, La Plagne....in times past.

There was another thread about this a month or so ago, and I mentioned about doing the Snow Train (after driving, flying etc...) it's the best way. For the same week's holiday you end up getting more sleep time and more skiing/boarding done.

I hate it when you pack up your stuff on the last day. Best holiday you can do with the boys IMO.

Not wanting to rub it in, but that's true. Was in Courmayeur (sp?) on sunday. Lovely it was. Though I do need to buy some snow chains.

Arriving on the 10th - going with a bunch of much more experienced mates, so if you see a group of lads at the bottom of the piste laughing at another lad sliding down the mountain on his face, that'll be us..
