Well that time of year is upon us, Tinsel everywhere, Bullst on the radio, Carol Singers.

Anyone else here just think it's just one big commercial exercise, alot like valentines day?

This year we seem to have an added buzz word of credit fking crunch into the mix, and 99% of people don't know what it means!
My local roads will be blocked around meadowhall meaning I can't get home from work easily, hopefully they won't have any money to spend so meadowhall will be empty meaning there's no traffic. You see people going from shop to shop with a list of names and they're buying a present for each of them, what the hell? Just give them the money and they can buy whatever they want in the sales rather than buying something you dont know they will like!

What a load of balls!

I agree. It goes on the same pile as birthdays, easter, valentines day, fathers day and mothers day.

I flipping hate christmas and I hate being expected to enjoy myself and make an effort for people that dont bother making an effort themselves the rest of the year.

Bah.

Yep, agree here. Try to minimise spending on presents, and maximise quality time with the O/H, good friends and most the family.

Yup could not agree with you more.

Another load of ste, chrismatmas parties, secret santa, all for people you dont give a toss about. Of which I wont be attending any of them.

I just see it as a few days off just to chill out with no cards, tinsel and tree.
With people I do care about.

You can always rely on PH to bring a little bit of cheer into the world ... This thread has warmed my heart, it really has.

First it's tea and coffee, now it's Christmas. What's going to be next on jamoor's hit list?

Well, it feels very Christmassy here in Northern Italy! I can't get to work today, over two foot of snow outside, and still hammering it down.

Ikea last year got into trouble here, because they refused to stock Nativity dioramas! They take Xmas quite seriously here, and respect more what it's all about, which is nice.

No, just trying to recreate what it should be about. Not commercialism, or fking Coca Cola (and the like) adverts. Just enjoying good company.

Now how is that joyless and miserable?

What a bunch of miserable Scrooges! I don't think it's been that bad this year, not seen too many Christmas adverts on the TV yet, I seem to remember that by the beginning of December last year every ad was Christmas related.

I've had 8 days holiday this year. Personally, for once, I'm quite looking forward to not having to go into work for a couple of weeks.

TBH, I don't like Christmas for what it has become. As a kid growing up in the 70s I remember it very differently to what it is now. That said, I'm not religious in any way and neither are most of the people who 'celebrate' chrimbo...

I think it should be called End of Year seeing that it is anything but religious for more than many. Or how about Commercemas?

Well I fking LOVE it.
I'll be round my parents place for a few days again along with all my young nieces and nephews. They are all at the age where Christmas is still magical and it brings back those memories for me. We dont get too hung up in the commercial side, although presents are a big part of our Christmas.
Then 2 days after Xmas, I'm off with the GF to a remote cottage in Wales for 7 nights.
And I hope it snows snows snows.
LOVE it!

Get lost. The coke adverts are christmas.

Christmas is what YOU make it. Don't go overboard. Don't buy fk all until December. Buy a tree, decorate it. Cook dinner together, snuggle on sofa after going for a stroll.

What's not to like?

I love Christmas, not the whole presents things and the crap thats on the telly. Spending a few days with family, enjoying good times etc . .

Nothing better than getting up on a frosty Christmas morn taking the dog out for a long walk coming home to nice warm house and great breakfast . . then family coming round sharing fantastic meal. Just makes me realise how lucky we are.

Smoking
Idiots on the road (have enough threads on them already)
People who complain the morning after they drink (exhibited at that conference I went to)
