If you don't want ID cards, you now have one last chance to have your say. Take 2 minutes out to send an e-mail briefly explaining why you don't want them (or if you do!) to:

.. and title your e-mail:

"Consultation response".

If you don't approve of the ID card system and don't do anything about it now then you have no one to blame when the state has more intrusion in your life, when your entire details are put up for grabs in one convenient place, when you're paying for yet another uber quango job club and when efficiency isn't even being served. Apparantly, Smith is being mobbed by people who want to pre order.

The people who really want an ID card are the people who aren't supposed to be here, or are otherwise up to no good. I guess that's the profile of people who hang around Jacqui. She thinks they're alright, so everybody else believes her, because she's the home secretary.

I think it's a good idea myself. Give the cards to the illegals and criminals first. That way at least the money is wasted as soon as possible.

As incoherently angry as this makes me, I believe writing to express my views on this will be so much pissing into the wind. It became clear long ago that this government views the democratic process as an inconvenience at best. They are happy to let the little people air their views, then ignore them, telling us, in as patronising a way as possible, that Nanny knows best and it's for our own good.

NuLabour has a rich history of ignoring facts and views they don't like and forgetting they're there to represent the will of the people. Anyone who thinks a bunch of deluded authoritarian control freaks going to let the proles derail their Vision is fooling themselves. Our only hope is that they get kicked out on their arse at the next election. If not, then ID cards will only be the first turning of the screw.

I don't really care either way... unless I have to pay for an ID card. What I find utterly repugnant is that the government could make it law to have something and also charge you for it. If we have to have something by law then they shouldn't be allowed to charge us for it.

Agreed, but this g'ment is skating on thin ice. They can't afford to be as arrogant now as they have been in the past. Also, if the opposition knows that there is mileage in opposing it too, and that the people are actively opposed to it, they are going to make a stand too. You MUST write if you feel strongly!

You also have to except the very real possibility that not only will you have to pay for the card but they'll bring in legislation to prosecute people for not having it on them. Forget your wallet and get stopped by plod; that's 60 quid and 3 points on your licence for doing 38 in a 40 and an 80 quid fine for not having your ID card on you...... Isn't the world a safer place

It is actually much better than that; they are charging you twice, possibly three times! First time is the tax money you have paid to set the ridiculous scheme up in the first place, second there is the purchase of the card, which if you refuse you can be charged (read fined) for not having. Good huh?

I completely agree i refuse point blank to pay for my ID card
