We are off to Newquay next week and im wondering if there is anything good we shouldn't miss. We've been before so know a few good places to visit. But anything less touristy to go to?

Or indeed good places to eat. I seem to remember restaurants not being so good...

Surf, surf and surf again. As I once saw on a sticker in a car:

Living without surf isn't.

Newquay town centre is a horrid place. Drive down to Goonhilly Earth station or look round a Tin mine. Holywell Bay is a lovely beach about 5 miles drive from Newquay. Bit chilly this time of year though?
There are lots of interesting places to go to, but leave Newquay you must.

We are staying at the Headland hotel. Newquay was a dive when we were last there, so assuming its the same. Probably wonder down to put some pennies in the machines.

We like doing this kind of holiday, rather than burning in the sun. Go for a walk and find a pub, sit and have a beer next to the fire.

Thanks for all the tips. I'll note them down and do them as and when.

That car place looks brill. Were both petrol heads. Are you allowed to just wonder about?

Watergate bay - Surf/JO place
Seal rescue place (get there early and you can watch them feed the seals wthout hundreds of kids which all seem to turn up at 10:30 onwards (dont go to the pub opposite)

ummm not sure what else? I went for 5 days i.e. 3 full days. By the end i had seen enough and been on my fill of walks and dodging pikys in the town centre.

Oh and Project Edan, and have a fresh pizza made from the localproduce!

If you pop along to Rick Stein's in Padstow you no longer have to book for all tables. I was there a couple of months ago and the new layout has a sea food bar in the centre with stools. I was told by the door staff that if the stools are not already sat on you can just sit down and have a drink and order as much or as little that you fancy off the menu. One couple came in, ordered a bottle of white wine and helped it down with 2 or 3 of the starters from the main menu - looked like a good idea for future reference.

The Eden Project is certainly worth a visit and if you spend an extra couple of minutes at the tills your entrance fee is converted to a gift to the centre and you recieve a card that entitles you to as many visits as you like for free for 1 year.

springbok bar for england vs the boks will be good, and for the fun factor (read..chav factor) visit berties, the club under the big hotel, also for family stuff as already said visit goonhilly downs, sea life centre, watergate bay and hollywell bay, and you have to get a wicked willys surf shack t shirt.

Headland Hotel is nice, had breakfast there last weekend - looks right out over Fistral Beach.

Newquay still is a dive. For good beer though, try the Smugglers Inn near Cubert, The Bowgie Inn near Crantock, and of course you can do the St. Austell Brewery, Skinners Brewery (Truro) and the Cornish Cyder Farm (nr. Perranporth). Plenty of decent pubs about, just avoid Newquay in the evenings.

For other stuff, Eden Project, Goonhilly, Lands End, the usual stuff really.

top advise guys. We are there for 6 days (-2 for travelling) so 4 full days. Should be enough to keep us going.

From memory of my trips there, bear in mind that most of these places will be very quiet this time of year and not at all touristy

There is a pub on Perranporth beach (have to walk out over the sand to get to it), that does lovely food and has some good entertainment on a Friday or Saturday night.

Lands End attraction is a dive and I would avoid it personally

Tintagel is a nice village to mooch around, the walk/climb up to the castle is good and works off some of those cornish pasties!

My favourite beach is Porthcurno down past Lands End, and you can go up to Minack Theatre which is on the cliff overlooking the beach

If you go to Marazion, you can cross to St Michaels Mount when the tide is out, or get one of the little boats across if the tide is in, well worth a visit.

Eden project is a seriously overpriced for entrance, and I appeared to be one of the few people under 50 in there!!

Another vote for Goonhilly which I found really interesting
