I know there will be and have been Christmas Party threads but I have to share this. Our office Christmas Party ths year is in the same hotel it has been for the past 3 years, doing the same boring crap (Secret Santa, quiz etc...) at the same time, eating the same food, sitting next to the same people.

Im not going, I can't cope with it, its like ground hog day. I fear if I went I would get the same secret santa gift I got last year and just go mental.

Anyone else have to put up with the office Christmas "party" when you really don't want to go?.

Our departmant try to do something different every year.

You think that's bad. At my last firm we went to the same restaurant (a client) at least 7 years in a row that I know of.

Our ones used to be the same - same Italian restaurant round the corner - where the food was ste to be honest ... we used to tell the girl in the office who arranged it to pick somewhere else but she used to get chatted up when she went round there and plied with drink so that's always where we ended up ...

Plus there would be loads of people there we didn't know - mates of the boss etc ... we just shook hands and nodded dumbly.

Glad we don't go anymore. Only upside was, the boss paid for it all ...

We are going to a restaurant which was closed down due to a rat infestation, and has since re-opened. Damn, I have something in my diary I can't get out of that day. Bugger.

I don't do works Xmas parties. grumpy

Look, the fat bird from accounts is still the fat bird from accounts, she doesn't get any more attractive waering a paper hat and you having 3/4's of a bottle of vodka.

Xmas parties only go to serve the office gossips who want to post pictures on their bebo and facebook pages as they have no real friends. Bugger off, i do not want my picture plastered all over the internet.

This secret santa nonsence as well annoys me, i do not need any more crap in my house and the last thing i need is someone to spend ten quid on ste i don't need. I struggle thinking of things to buy my family for Xmas, i don't need to have to buy something for someone who i wouldn't piss on if they were on fire.

I thought we lived in a free country where we could do as we wished rather than being pressurised into going to 'works' parties. irked

Ahhhmmm Oooot!

Always mystifies me, these people who feel "compelled" to go. Why?

If it sounds like something you'll enjoy then go. If not, then politely say no thanks or if you're feeling weak of spine, make up some other event happening that you can't get out of.

Many years ago I was faced with the prospect of a tedious night wth a bunch of cigar-smoking middle aged men, or going to different party instead. I chose the latter, and was promptly carpeted the next day by the boss for not supporting the 'team'. I told him that whilst he was entitled to tell me what to do in office hours, outside those I'd make my own mind up.

I've not been picked up by the spelling police for a couple of days. My humblest apologies. wink
