The companies concerned don't really matter, but the simple facts are as follows:
My renewal notice came through, and since we've been with them a long time, I barely looked at it.

But times are tough and £1200 per annum seems a lot so...............I used one of those websites which offer to check the whole market and find that the premiums are staggeringly different. I got on the line to my company directly who knocked £500 from my premium......."just like that" . So that will be £700 now then will it? Why the fL1ck didn't you take that off before?

I went to another big naame company who did the deal for about £470. Equivalent cover in every way. I then checked my bank statement and surprise surprise I had been paying £100 per month for the past year, MUPPET!!

I did feel a bit stupid. Just hope others learn from my mistake and don't just renew without thinking, they do make it so easy bless 'em.

I remember a few years back, I noticed, in the small print, that a car insurance policy was self-renewing unless notified otherwise. I called them immediately and told them to halt that action.

Ever since, I always ask when taking out any kind of insurance policy.

You must live in one hell of a place. My home insurance - buildings and contents - for a 4-bed detached house and £50k of contents is £325pa.

Good of you to remind others, every time it comes up for renewal you should check agains the rest of the market.

Hiscox only put my combined up by a few £ last year.

I was in the same boat, but with car insurance. Stuck with the same company for the last few years (I'm lazy), but decided to do an online comparison as it's up for renewal.

2006 Impreza STi, over 10 years ncb, fully comp, no claims protection. Was £930, now £390. Maybe my previous insurers just put the same numbers in a hat but picked the 9 first..

It pays to shop around wink
