I'm considering going on a weekend jaunt to France next weekend, in one of the cars.

Where is good to go? I fancy some nice roads and TBH peace abnd quiet. It has been a very stressful month and I just need to get away. I want to be able to chill out during the day, maybe visit some towns, then have a nice eveing meal on Saturday and relax.

Also what do I need to know about driving to France, aside from they drive on the wrong side of the road!

Headlights? Getting a sports car on the ferry?

Any advice is welcome. smile

Could prove tricky. I'd take one with you if I were you.

Have a look in the Le-Mans bit, loads of advice on driving in France and places to go.

1. Go to Burgundy

2. Stay in places listed on www.sawdays.co.uk - you'll thank me for that one.

3. DO NOT go on the Ferry. Go on the tunnel.

4. Drive very quickly.

5. Stop in little villages and enjoy excellent food.

Try here

In short, don't take the mick with speeding. The French do on the spot fines and are happy to take your papers / car from you if you're being very stupid. Take photocopies of your driving licence with you as they will sometimes require a copy if you've been caught being naughty. That could involve them taking your licence to copy it and forgetting to return it to you. Oh and the French do like to tail gait somewhat.

When driving in France I like to stop off each morning to pick up supplies of local produce: french bread, pate, cheese, french tomatoes. Then when you need a break from your hoon, you simply pull off the road (vineyards are good) for a bite to eat using the rear spoiler as a table. I always keep a sharp knife in my tool kit for this purpose!

Yes, when you buy locally grown tomatoes in France, they do indeed tend to be french tomatoes.

On a serious note, the alps provide some fantastic driving, but they're probably too far for a weekend trip.

The weekend in Honfleur would be nice - as previously advised, don't take a ferry, use the tunnel. I haven't checked your profile, but if you're in something low and wide ask for the high sided carriage which gives you a bit more room.

Also as posted above, don't do big speeds, they'll take your car.
