Having put my mind to getting fit I have of course started taking much more notice of what I eat. It appears that loads of raw veg and fruit are universally accepted as 'beneficial foods'; so that is what I am currently eating. They can get a bit boring though, so I have started supplementing my diet with nuts and seeds. I have found a product I LOVE! they're called Crispy Nutty Seed Bites and are delicious. BUT! are they healthy?

Per 100g

Energy 2115kj(510Kcal)
Protein 13.8g
Carbohydrate 47.4g
of which sugars 18.0g
Fat 29.0g
of which saturates 7.6g
mono-unsaturates 13.4g
polyunsaturates 7.3g
Fibre 5.1g
Sodium - trace
salt equivalent - trace

Are they good for me, or bad for me (please)?

600 calories = Big Mac

Although the Big Mac is worse for you in other ways...

I would say not good. Approx half of what you're eating is fat and sugar.

it sounds like it's some mildly healthy stuff - fortified with sugar

Do you have a Julian Graves health food shop close by? they do Snack Packs of seeds and nuts and fruit far healthier than what your eating and remember its those saturates that are the killers, nuts and seeds might be high in fat but its the good fats.

I've made entire meals with less calorie, and certainly less fat content than that little seed bar of yours!

Too high in sugar and saturated fat.

If you want seeds/nuts then dry fry in a hot saucepan till they get roasted, take off the heat, add a dash of soya sauce, mix through and leave to cool.
Tasty snack, although a bit moreish ...

Correct -and I'm perfectly happy to pile down a Big Mac on occasion. Just putting the OP's 510 calorie nut bar into context, especially when he's trying to create and maintain a calorie deficit.

ETA -Just notivced the OP didn't atually state he was wanting to lose weight. Sorry 911, not accusing you of being lardy in any way.

remember fat doesnt make you fat, its the calories you need to watch - avoid anything with that much sugar % in....cut out the carbs eat pretty much as much fat and protein as you liek as long as the overall calories are about the same you will lose weight ( as fat and protein are harder to digest and you actually extract less calories than the equivalent carb .) as well as a few other neat little things that cutting down on the carbs do to you , this is the basis for atkins and a few other diets...

I'm watching the inches more than the lbs smile I'm also doing the 100pressups.com challenge (I've just finished my third repeat of week 6).

The more aware I become of what is in the food I eat, the more I am horrified by what I've been putting in my body all these years yikes

Oh, and that's not a nut bar by the way, it's a 200g bag of nut biscuits (of which I have had several)bags) boxedin

Im assuming the bars are less than 100g though? If not, thats a lot for a snack. Most cereal bars are only 150 calories ish.
