Thes Pirates that have captured a Liner....
It was on the News lats night, and my GF said "ooh, I didnt think Pirates still existed".

I didnt utter a single word, but in my mind I KNEW that she had visions of one-legged, eyepatched bandits sailing the high seas.

Maybe they have been taken over by hot pirates. Might be worth a few days at sea with this lot? laugh

I must admit when the first news report of these Somali pirates came to light a few months ago I was thinking "What?"

Piracy off the coast of Somalia has been a problem for a long time. Many ships and yachts have been attacked, but they seem to be getting bolder and taking on more lucrative targets at the moment, hence the increase coverage.

There are several places round the world where pirates operate still.

To basically clear up any uncertainty...The above film was one of the most expensive "adult" films ever made & my god, it was incredible!

The end.

It's not quite such a laughing matter when you are sailing in waters well known for piracy in a vessel likely to be targeted. My experience was off Venezuela. There is no way I would consider sailing past Somalia at the moment unless I was 800 + miles offshore, and would think hard about the Malacca straits.

It was a problem off Somalia back in 1993-94, we were often sailing between Djibouti and Mombassa and were advised to keep 50 miles off the coast, how things have changed!

So what I don't understand is why the shipping companies aren't putting some mercenaries on board?

Or even Ninjas - who as everyone knows are far cooler than Pirates.

Seriously? Ten guys, some Ak47s and the odd rocket launcher ought to deal with some Somalis in a boat? Surely?

I was thinking this... or just equip the crew with some decent hardware. They're going to have the upper hand surely, as they're in a multi-story ship. Shooting down at a group of people in a smaller ship can't be too risky can it? What am I missing?
