Anybody know if any of the companies are offering a packaged mobile phone and mobile broadband?

I don't want internet on my phone but need mobile broadband with a full size lap top and thought someone out there must be offering a package but I can't find one. At the moment I have the phone with Vodaphone and the mobile broadband with 3.

T-Mobile do an add-on for about £12.50 / month that gives you a decent 3G / HSDPA allowance.

Sign up for a new phone, make sure it's HSDPA compliant and use it as a bluetooth modem.

Alternatively, buy a PAYG mobile broadband 'stick' - 10-15 quid a month plus about 50 quid for the stick.

EFA. Got the stick price wrong.

If you're going to do this check two things:

The phone supports being used as a modem (tethering) either via USB or BT

The data bolt-on allows tethered use as not all do.

Loking at a T Mobile flyer, they don't half whack you when you exceed your allowance, which isn't much.

Depends on the plan. I'm on WnW+ which gives 3Gb, if I go over that I dont get charged but I dont get the same speeds either.

'3' are offering a package of a new Erikson K660i with 500 minutes and a mobile broadband dongle (only 3.6mbps) and 5GB of download for £22 a month on a 18 month contract until 30th Nov. I would have preferred the 7.2mbps that Vodaphone do but they donlt seem to be bundling.

They caught me with that and I nevrr did find out why. I have two mobile dongles out with field staff, one of whom claimed not to have used it at all yet she used up all the allowance and then cost me £30 on top within a few days. I think she may have left it connected.

I have a phone contract with 3.

I pay £15.00 per month for a "Broadband Plus" add-on which gives my 3Mb.

I either use this whilst mobile or with my handset (Nokia 6210c) connected to laptop via USB as a modem.
Good coverage, usually 3.5G most places.

Got mobile broadband with 3 - £7.50 a month for a 5GB limit. Works Ok but haven't found anywhere very fast.

They may still have the deal on if you phone them. Free dongle too.

They're not the future if you actually want to use your phone / USB stick on 3G.

They're only just about acceptable for voice calls because they have 2G roaming agreements.

im using as a nokia n73 as my modem on a T mobile contract.
it's much more reliable and faster than a usb stick modem.
there must be data included in my allowance as i have never been billed for using it to use the internet.
very impressed with it,using it now as my ste BT broadband is dropping out...

Why?

I have been using my Three handset either as a modem for laptop or for mobile surfing via handset for the past year and had no problems with speed or connectivity.

Depends on where you use it.

Anywhere outside of big towns and cities and you can forget it - you're down to GPRS speeds.

T-Mobile can be bad for this, but 3 are much, much worse.

There are no problems with Three apart from Customer Service.

I agree with the CS comment: they are awful, although I have to say everry 2nd or 3rd call I do get someone who knows what s/he is doing. The shops are as bad, giving conflicting advice with the call centre. I top up my ywo dongles every month and was told that if I did it early the new month would then begin that day when in fact iot added the days I had left to the next month.

I recall seeing Dabs or Maplins doing a Dongle and 12 months ( 3Gb I think) for £99 at the moment.
