Probably aimed at the slightly older PH with more work experience ...

So, how many careers have you had and what have they been?

I was a late starter and faffed around at Uni and in various jobs till I found a career at 26 in education. Now, a fair few years later, I fancy a change but I'm not sure if this is wise. Can't decide if I'm worried about money implications or just stepping into the unknown with no guarantees.

Interested to hear from anyone who changed career path later in life and what it meant for them.

Four, ish.

Started out on the path to being a Chef, st money, long hours, no perks.

Then went into the Motor Trade, manufacturer events, st money, long hours, good perks

After that IT, great money, long hours, no perks

Now in AV as a Director, long hours, less money than IT (at the moment) but the best quality of life I've had during any career.

Whatever you want to do, do it, its not a rehearsal.

I`m nearly 31 and started out in sales at the age of 18 selling cars and then a rep for a shopfitting company. That only lasted a year and I then "fell" into the transport industry at 24. Now a qualified transport manager and not looked back.

2 redundancies worth a lot of money, about five jobs worth a lot of money, and a side job I do for when times get rough.

Did my National when I was an apprentice on Trucks but never used it.
That was 25 years ago so it is so out of date with regard to the legal aspects, I would have to take it again if I wanted to use it.

36 now, nearly 37.

1st ever job - paperboy biggrin

Left school at 16 & started my career within Cancer Related science
Worked for 3 organisations.
4 years at college, day release.

Made redundant. Boo!

Spent 5 months in Yorkshire labouring for my cousins boyfriend who had a business doing barn conversions. It was a hot summer so was quite good fun.

Then...

Joined the Police, but left after 3 years due to chronic back condition..made worse by being set upon by a pis*ed up girlfriend of a 'squaddie' i was in the process of arresting for alcohol related offences.

Returned to a more senior position within Cancer Research industry , but had 10 months before i could start, so did some quick drop van delivery work, covering all Kent area.
Quite enjoyed it too.

Been within current lab-science position for 10 years. Longest job so far.

Future? God knows. stay where i am. I don't have the energy to start a whole new career again.
