So three choices. Simple. I've even made it so you can vote for all three options.
I'm not getting into the details here, suffice to say, it's a couple of people I don't know typing stuff that appears to be mostly drivel, and not in the least bit Pistonheads. It's not even interesting.

There might of course be an option for a trap door, an forum area WAYYYYYY below the USA thread (sorry guys but you were at the bottom of the list!) devoted to similar tedious threads. Mods could drop the thread straight in without the unsuspecting posters realising (hey, who turned out all the lights/where is everyone... etc)

Anyway... let the PH barometer decide.

It's utter bilge, and completely devoid of anything remotely funny from what I saw of it.

Absolutely.

I like to think PH is fairly autonomous...

Errr, there wasn't a "I'm not sad enough to open a thread called dead baby" option?

I haven't read the thread but I've voted all 3 options anyway.

Keep it going, it's a valid debate and hopefully gets people thinking

You need a 'don't find it funny but leave it open because there should be free speech' option

I didn't find it particularly funny, but that's not a reason to close it.

If you don't find it funny, don't laugh, express your indignance, and move on.

There's far too many moral crusaders around these days.

I did moot the

'Whoa, I have an opinion.'
'I want to type on the internet, I haven't got any friends'
'I'm angry about something else, but fk it...'

But I decided against myself...

Yes, No, Don't know. Worked though.

And i hope the people that posted drivvel feel a little foolish after 11.11.11.11.11.

I would have ticked that choice myself

It's a sensitive subject, but to ignore it?

Some of the points raised later on in the thread were interesting, and the thread could have taken a different route, once the 'hate' posts faded away.

Empathy towards those who have lost children (technically, I'm one of them) is all well and good, but you can't expect people whom you have no personal relationship with, to tiptoe around you, especially on forum read by tens of thousands.

I've not seen the facebook group, nor contributed to the thead, but was reading it with interest, and would probably have contributed to the debate Plotters raised.

But Shirley it shouldn't have needed Plotters intervention to haul it out of the mud slinging.
Yes it made a point. Or rather set a precedent.

The thread should have been aborted straight away

...rather than let the inevitable seagulls rip through the afterbirth.

Free speech and all that!!

I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with the topic, but this is the internet and you should be able to post whatever the hell you want!!

If you dont like the topic, dont read it.....its as simple as that!

Start censoring certain topics and you start the downward spiral until all of a sudden the internet becomes as PC as the real world!

Its the "principle" that needs to be maintained! Need to look at the bigger picture!

It was actually a pretty civilised debate up until the Facebook woman appeared.

Got to ask the question. How did she find it?

Answer: Google. And deliberately.

Switch the damn thing off. The P&P can be bad enough without keyboard warriors spoiling for a fight turning up to abuse regulars for a laugh.

But that's the very reason threads should remain open, because they evolve. I don't give a toss either way, however, the thread was then becoming a relevant discussion before it was closed.

I understand what Don is saying too, but those finding PH via this sort of thread may come in, abuse the regulars, but they won't stick around for long.

But I did, it wasn't offensive. I thought it was gibberish maundering, a waste of PH bandwidth...
I just expected more from PH, my bad.

I wasn't asking for censure, nor am I expecting an Aryan Forum, with people restricted to lascivious amorous fawning about each others TVRs.
Creating a Thread should be like making love to a beautiful woman, sure she might like dirty, but she doesn't want it up the arse all the time...

Eh? Maybe I've got this wrong, but as I understand it, a group of PH's go onto another site for a laugh and set up a group to deliberately wind up people with a contrary opinion (anti-Speed kills stuff). That gets shut down and they move onto something else (dead Babies). And you wonder why those people who've been wound up might then google PH and sign up here for a nosey?
