Anyone else having online purchases declined ???
Discussion
My debit card seems to have heard about the credit crunch and is taking the law in to its own hands. For the last couple of weeks payments to sites i've used without problems for years are being declined (play.com; amazon.co.uk, etc).
I've money in my account, the card isn't out of date and a trip to the bank had them scratching their heads as everything looks ok.
Anyone else having this problem ?

Had this last week on credit card, sometimes the automatic fraud scanners at the bank get a false positive on your card being used for fraudulent activity and block your card. The bank should ring you to check, but rarely do. Call your bank and ask them why they are refusing your card, and get them to remove the block they've probably put on it.
They flagged my card after using it to by a carparking ticket, which I have done at the same machine at the same time for the last 8 months, thinking they'd spotted fraud...wtf ?

That's the thing - no block from my bank. I went in on Friday and they gave it the all clear - no unusual activeiy flagged or any reason why it should be blocked. They flagged my card after using it to by a carparking ticket, which I have done at the same machine at the same time for the last 8 months, thinking they'd spotted fraud...wtf ?
Tried again this morning and still no joy.
Yep, one purchase is taking ages to go through, I called the seller and they couldn't understand what was going on, no money out of my account and no item delivered. Also, Paypal is giving me a bit of a nightmare at the moment as well, no idea when they'll decide to accept my card again, I've been owe a guy through it for about 2 weeks and he doesn't want a cheque.

Did you by any chance sign up to the Verified by Visa (or other similar internet card security scheme) recently?
Verified by Visa is really winding me up. Quite apart from another password to remember, the login screen is a popup, so you have no way of knowing if it's genuine or not, at least not that I know of. I struggle to see how that improves security.SirTainly said:

i got flagged this time last year, the missus paid off a loan from our joint account in the morning (£17,500) and yet when i tried to buy a scarf in the afternoon for £15 it was blocked, just as well it wasn't fraud as otherwise the horse would have well and truly bolted They flagged my card after using it to by a carparking ticket, which I have done at the same machine at the same time for the last 8 months, thinking they'd spotted fraud...wtf ?

I've the same issue with Paypal at present, new credit card and it claims it has been declined by my bank when I try and make it the new default card. It hasn't and is fine everywhere else.tinman0 said:
I'm having something similar with shop payments. Card gets declined first time, try it again and its fine. Visa Delta Debit type card from Barclays for what its worth.
Likewise - Visa Debit from Barclays. Although subsequent attempts don't allow the payment to go through.Barclays have issued me with a new card (the equivalent of confused IT support staff asking you to switch it off, then back on again).

they're also being alot tighter with items being delivered, they *HAVE* to go to the cardholders address now, i was told.
Really? We've recently (last week) had stuff delivered (by request) to my Mrs' workplace. In fact I think it's option on Dabs and ebuyer...Edited by esselte on Monday 10th November 16:37
