The misuse of English words by Americans
Discussion
Languages constantly evolve - ask the French; they do seem rather peeved that despite conquering England as little as 1012 years ago, we insisted on mangling the perfection of the French language with a lot of Anglo-Saxon, and then exporting the whole lot across the Atlantic with a smattering of Nordics, Germanics, Africans, Chinese and...er..Welsh...and hey-presto, here we are with American English as the globally accepted lingua-franca (or is that a type of pasta?).
Give it 50 years, and we'll all be chatting in Chinese, and specialist manufacturers of bespoke 'L' keys for top-end keyboards will have long since gone to the wall.

Aluminum
Sadly , in this case I have to side with our colonial cousins. Originally named in Britain, Aluminum was discarded in favour of the British Aluminium, as a result of a trade mark conflict, so for once , they are using the original English more than we are !!
