I'm thinking of taking the gf on a 2/3 day break somewhere in Europe this coming weekend, as her dad's been in hospital and she could do with some cheering up! However, having never really been anywhere in Europe (school trips and a lads' holiday to Portugal don't really give me much to go on!) I don't really know where would be good? Having had a look on lastminute.com for flights & hotels it looks like Paris/Madrid/Barca/Venice/Amsterdam can be done for roughly the same price (~£200 each), but no idea what would be best.

What is there to do in these (and other) places? I think we'd prefer to do things rather than just sight see. Also she'd probably like to sample the local shopping, but presumably any city has more than enough shops to cater for that...

So, any recommendations? Cheers!

I don't think the OP needs half arsed jokes about trips to Rotherham. Won't some people ever grow up?

I think a nice choice would be somewhere with a bit of culture that is a bit off the traditional tourist trail. Sheffield maybe?

I'll take you away for a long weekend Lois, just need to clear it with Mrs BG, which I'm sure won't be a probelm.

Barcelona, lots to do, great food. Cheap hookers, if you and your girl fancy trying a 3some.

I'm looking at the same, but for other reasons.

For me, Brusells was on the list - nice food, great beers, pretty City, easy to get to, and if your missus likes chocolate, she'll thank you for taking her there.

Other places were Paris (again easy, but pricey), possibly Bracelona or maybe somewhere in Eastern Europe. Decided against most of them as this isnt an ideal time of year...E. Europe is out as it is largely overrun with stag-do's.

Soo....what I've decided to do is look at staying a bit closer to home - cant be doing with the sleazyjet/PikeyAir hassle for a weekend away and have left if too late to do a decent carrier - now I'm looking at Spa hotels.

If thats sounds of interest and if you've not been, you could do worse than taking her to Bath. Beautiful city and plenty of choice of accomodation for all budgets. I'm looking at Laterooms.co.uk for ideas, checking out the feedback for the places I'm narrowing down on sites like expedia.

We went to Stratford Upon Avon last time and that was lovely. Perhaps not ideal during a soaking wet November weekend, but it doesnt rain in the Spa smile

If you're set on going abroad, the above will be useless, but if you're open to suggestions, I hope thats perhaps a little helpful.

Happy surfing

Vienna, Prague, Barcelona, Rome all great...

If you go to Vienna then dine at "The White Chimeny Sweep" (http://www.weisser-rauchfangkehrer.at/content/startseite.php) and remember to also go the the Sacher Torte shop smile
