Hi all

I'm after a site or any good resource for houses and there layouts.

What rooms where etc to give me some ideas for my own. I'm going to be doing a simply shaped oblong but when I put the room layout down it seems rather dull. So any inspiration is welcome.

Regards

Dave!

I don't know of any websites (though I'm sure there are some out there), but you can get books of plans amongst the 'build your own home' type stuff.

Alternatively, try Googling 'new homes for sale'; you'll find that most housebuilders have websites that show the floor plan of the houses they have for sale.

If you can give more specifics about what you're after (size, orientation, number and uses of rooms you'd like, that sort of thing), I may be able to offer more assistance.

At the end of the day, though, if you're serious about building your own house, then the relatively small amount of money requred to get an Architect to come up with a bespoke design specifically for your needs is a very good investment.

This is all before an architect is employed to do some proper drawings. We are trying to get our head round the costs involved and what we can/ can't afford to do.

I'll try your suggestions and see if I get some more inspiration.

Potton Homes do a range of timber framed houses.

http://www.potton.co.uk/sb/homedesigns/heritage.ht...

If you contact them they will send you a load of design from 3 to 6 bedders with 2-3 reception rooms etc. Various shapes and sizes, from memory the timber frame prices were very good.

You would obviously have to do all the foundations and services prior to erection.

Then package manage the first and second fix trades etc.

Its just finding the land,

Some excellent links there, very much appreciated.

We love the idea of a timber framed house, the ones we've stayed in have always had a warmer feel to them which we like and want in a house.

Could always look into Strawbale as a building material.
