Putting a silicone seal around a bath
Discussion
So, I've removed the old silicone, thoroughly dried the area, applied the new silicone, and then removed the excess using a finger dipped in washing up liquid.
Net result, a large lump of silicon on the end of my finger, and nothing like the neat result shown in many DIY manuals.
Any sensible suggestions before I remove it all and try again?

Just dip your finger in warm water, and keep dipping it between strokes. No need for washing up liquid.Net result, a large lump of silicon on the end of my finger, and nothing like the neat result shown in many DIY manuals.

Make sure the bath is full of water before you silicone...
Put on a s
tty old t-shirt, run a bead of silicone around the bath / wall joint, about the diameter of toothpaste, spit on finger and run along the bath / wall / silicone joint, wipe excess silicone on s
tty t-shirt every 12-18", re-spit and start again.
Disclaimer: I have never done this personally but I've watched my brother do it dozens of tims and it always seems to turn out well.

masking tape and latex gloves are your friends for this job.
For those with no real practice this is the easiest method. Tape gives straight lines and prevents rubbish overspill. Glovescan be changed quickly if silicone goes all over them.10 mins prep, 5 mins work = perfect result
Right here goes,
Fill bath or make sure it's well fixed into position.
Dry junction from bath to wall.
Apply a thin bead of silicon, ensuring the bead touches the wall and bath.
Spray a fine mist of water on the bead with one of those small plant watering jobbies.
Remove excess with a small wet timber/MDF tool purpose made for the job.
( By removing, I mean cut the excess as in at a 45 degree angle and not drag the excess. That is what causes the silicon to squeeze out and make the mess. )
leave it alone to dry, and I mean leave it alone.
Dry skin in minutes, cured over night.
Jobs a good'un.
