I'm still interested in any views regarding the apparent normality of touching up women in public in China / Japan. It seems so abhorrent to me to physically molest a stranger on a train or bus and to do it so shamelessly. In this country it is very much a rarity to hear of someone being assaulted in this way, but it seems, from comments in the deleted thread, that over there it's a day-to-day occurence, enacted by most men.

To those who have colleagues in those areas, have they ever mentioned if it bothers them? Is it a fact of life to be endured, or a complete nuisance that is punished where possible?

Do the police turn a blind eye? Are there even laws against it?

What do the women think of their men for doing this? Do they even know? Is it so ingrained that it is not even seen as a problem?

Thanks for any answers.

It's rife, apparently.

Below is Wong Tu Tutchi, a serial groper caught and imprisoned 4 times.

Note the use of clever disguises during his career.

I wasn't even comfortable with the lecherous men in Barcelona paying far too much attention to the women in our group so I highly doubt I would be able to stand by and watch women being groped, especially if it was my other half!

I suppose that would make it fair game for someone to walk over and crush their bks?

Come on, this is the third thread I've posted my question on. Let's keep the amusing Asian racism spread a little more thinly amongst the many other threads in PH land.

Of course it's against the law. The reason it's rife is because Japan in particular is a very reserved society and it simply goes unreported. The victims will be far too scared of causing a scene to do anything about it.

Very interesting.

I had heard of women only cars in India (which I think is more about religion - possibly) but not in the supposedly anciently 'civilised' East.

Ta for the link.

What they need is a herd of Thai ladyboys to start regularly taking the train - they'd soon stop their nonsense after cupping a couple of gooseberrys.
