Has anyone here bought one of these e-book readers yet?
No, but I see a bloke on the train with one regularly, and have checked it out so to speak.HOGEPH said:
Are they any good, and is it worth it, bearing in mind the book downloads seem to be as expensive as buying a real paperback?
The page transitions are very slow. It's not quick to flip around (e.g. go back a few pages to re-read something). The e-books are astonishingly expensive given the almost zero production and distribution costs. I don't believe it's good to reward such blatant rip-offs with sales.
I love gadgets, but I have no desire for this technology, yet.

Much the same as music downloads. No packaging, printing, or transport costs, and once you've sold it, you've still got it. Must be somewhere online offering cheaper book downloads?I bought one a couple of months ago to avoid having to take a pile of books on holiday. I like it. I don't find that there is any problem with page transitions, unlike the poster above who was looking over somebody's shoulder. I find reading on it an unremarkable experience (this is a good thing).
I also used it to read business documents - pdfs come out very clearly - meaning that I didn't have to carry piles of paper. I now do this on business trips.
