Will this become policy throughout the UK?

What about smokers who only smoke outside the home/car?

Do any smokers actually smoke outside their own home? Maybe if it's rented but apart from that...

My pal is a foster parent to three nice kids, and a smoker. I don't think he smokes around the kids and he really is a terrific foster dad to them.

I don't agree with kids being placed in an unsafe environment, but these blanket bans will preclude a lot of great people from making a positive contribution to the lives of young people who really need the help.

Tricky call though.

I only ever smoke in the garage.

Its a rented house but it wouldnt change if we owned it.

This inference that smokers cant be good parents is fking st, to put not too fine a point on it.

Ah, but how long before they extend this to not having children at all if you smoke?

What if the kids that get adopted are 20-a-day faggers? Are non-smoking parents encouraged to start?

Absolutely unbelievable. Thoroughly decent people who happen to smoke (probably well out of the way of any children) are banned from giving a good home to a child who otherwise might not have one, whilst chav council estate scum can procreate at leisure, then bring up the child on the social using dole money to fund junk food and Lamberts? What a cocking mess this country has become.

I did hear on the radio (A couple of weeks back on the J. Vine Show)that if the kids the foster parents are looking after smoke, then the foster parents are legally obliged to furnish them with cigarettes - but the foster parents themselves cannot smoke, due to the potential harmful effects of the smoking children... confused

It isn't implying that smokers make bad parents at all. They just don't want to run the risk of kids being brought up in a smoke filled environment. Because whilst you and others here say that they smoke outisde, the majority don't.

That doesn't sound anywhere as near as dramatic though, wouldn't sell a single newspaper....

My missus and I both smoke, but not in front of the kids. We have 3 of our own, and have fostered our niece otherwise she was off into Care for good. Under this new H&S bks regulation our niece would now be living in complete safety with complete strangers, and ostracised from the family. Good eh?
