While we've got scaffolding covering the house I thought I'd address the issue of our rather ailing aerial setup. At the moment we've got three (broken, very old) aerials, each with a bit of knackered coax, half stripped of insulation, thrown roughly over the tiles before entering the various rooms.

I'd like to replace them all with one high gain aerial and distribute the signal from that, and/or maybe a dish. Reception we have is remarkably good considering the state of all the components between the back of the receiver and the incoming signal, but it has degraded over the last year. In the past every distribution box I've looked at has degraded the signal - are there any that don't that could split one coax from the roof to 3/4 locations?

Never had an issue with good splitter/boosters. Have to spend a few hundred quid for one though. Sorry cant remember names.

Do you just want to split the aerial or do you want to distribute Freeview, Satellite and FM everywhere?

If its just the aerial then you want a masthead amplifier and a passive splitter.

If its the latter then a masthead amplifier and a loftbox.

Use CT100 coaxial everywhere.

If I go for a dish while I'm up there then distribute the lot, looking for options (trying to price up tongue out) really.

If you add the dish, then you need a loftbox.

Aerial>Masthead Amp>Loftbox RF Input
FM>Loftbox FM Input

Dish Output 1>Loftbox Sat Input

Dish Output 2>Triplex Living Room Plate Dish input 2

Loftbox Living Room Output > Triplex Living Room Plate Dish input 1

Skybox RF2 Output > Loftbox Return

The each outlet is run from the loftbox numbered outlets.

You need 3 coaxs to the living room from the loftbox and one to each of the other rooms.

That gives you Sky/RF/FM at every outlet.

Cheers, a nice easy shopping list to follow.

Are things like the MH amp all much of a muchness nowadays or does cheap still = crap?

With MH amps its worth getting a decent brand, like Triax but they are all an order of magnitude better than those ste back of the telly boosters which amplify the signal and all the crap the wire picks up.

The loftbox is made by Global Comms though Triax make something very similar.

The triplexing plates are now carried by just about every socket manufacturer depending on who you are using to do your brassware.
