I have to say that I would have voted for Obama. Of the two, he seems the better. McCain does have a history and experience angle, but I am completely turned off by the constant references to him 'serving his country' and other such nonsense. Maybe it works in the US, but going for the sympathy vote does nothing for me.

Sorry, should have been more specific - McCain kept going on about his military record. Great, pleased he survived but do we need to be reminded each and every time he stands up? Ok, I exaggerate but you get the idea.

Chatting to a colleague earlier, McCain was going on about his Annapolis Military college record. Its not easy to get through it, but they looked up the records and it turned up he was one of the worst there - not just a little but really bad! In the bottom 3%-5% of the year! Not something you would necessarily claim as positive really.

I am sure he's a nice guy, but as commented on another thread - could you vote for someone who has arms like that?

Where is None of the Above? McCain screwed up by choosing Palin- who wants that as VP? Obama might have charisma, some nice ideas and certainly talks a nice talk, but we've had that with Tony Blair, too. The two-party system in the US isnt enough of a choice for me I'm afraid.

If Obama gets in, out go the reciprocal trade agreements and military spending and that will hurt here……..a lot

Bizarre comments on the news about the Democrats being closer to Labour than to the Tories; they might be the party on the left of American politics, but they're still to the right of any mainstream UK party.

Interesting, isn't it? Just goes to show that the US system is more about electing a president than electing a party in that we seem to have swayed towards the better man for the job regardless of his alignment to our political views.

Exactly.

Can hardly be called 'socialist' IMO.
