I'm trying to do my tax return on-line but my knowledge of finance in German is somewhat limited and I'm struggling.

I tried to translate the website using Google translator but I realised it's secure so course it won't work. Does anyone have any idea how it can be translated securely using a translation service?

Cheers!

If it's important legal stuff then you might want to try a few different ones and take a balanced view of the translation...

If it's important legal stuff, don't take a chance with freebie online translation software. There's not a single one out there that's any good.

Occasionally I get clients trying to cut costs by running text through an online package and then sending it to me for "proofing". It invariably needs binning and starting from scratch. I'm happy to proof it for them if that's what they absolutely insist on, but it always ends up costing them more than just translating it properly in the first place.

Sgirl is right

I should have rephrased that..

Online translators should not be relied upon. They are okay to get the gist of something - eg, a user manual, a recipe, but not info you rely on materially... (finance, law, etc)

eg, I would rely on it looking on ebay germany for a £5 purchase and to check shipping details translation or a returns policy, but not for a major contract... :-)

Cheers for the feedback. I just wanted to understand what the functions of the tax website did. For that, the online translator was ok but I definitely agree that for legal documents, professional translation should be sought after.

Either way, it's all sorted now, thanks! smile

I've just found out that I've been given a rather lovely and very large tax credit which will be a nice addition to my Christmas bonus.... smile
