Sorry if this threads falls into "drama queen" territory.

Thought I'd buck the PH norm by actually posting whilst on a trolley in A&E with a drip in my arm.

Some sort of kidney problem detected by GP last week. 7 days on antibiotics, then tonight I started pissing significant amounts of blood every few mins, so I thought a quick emergency service was in order. State of mind not helped by wife's friend whose husband had similar symptoms in the run up to his testicular cancer diagnosis.

Anyway, 60 minute wait through triage, blood & urine tests, X-rays, drip.

Little white blob currently floating around my bladder, scraped it's way down (hence the blood).

Managed to make the rather tasty (female) doctor blush when she asked when a particular symptom occurred. "Vigorous sex" wasn't the answer she was expecting, much amusement all round.

Moral of the story: at least two litres a day of liquid keeps your kidneys working properly. But you probably knew that already,

As you were...

You should count yourself lucky for this alone. My dad was very ill for a while before he died and every time the doctor told us he needed to go into hospital, rather than A&E listening to the doctor we had to go through the whole lot. The least time we spent there was 4 hours, though that was when he was losing consciousness.

The day he died, the GP called an ambulance on 999. We were left for 6 hours before he even got a cubical in A&E. After being told he'd be okay we headed home, 3 hours later we got a call to say he'd died. Well, to say he'd deteriorated and then tell us when we got there.

Now, before anyone jumps on the NHS are amazing bandwagon, I have had many dealings with them and some incidents/hospitalisations were much better than others. The bad far outweighed the good though unfortunately. It's not something I wish to discuss further, just needed to get my thoughts out there.

Very sorry to read that. Here in Ireland there is supposed to be an A&E crisis, but in my experience (with accident-prone young kids) service levels/wait times very much depend on which day and time you're in, i.e. pot luck. You really don't want to get ill on a Fri or Sat night.

I did consider the mobile phone interference, but I'm pretty sure everything is shielded. At least I didn't hear any flatlining whilst I was posting.

A quick trip to a mixed hospital ward really brings home the "if you ain't got yer 'elf" message. The old chap on the next trolley was talking about his previous stroke and current diabetes.

Still, hot doctors FTW!

Sleep....

I don't care how much it stings and feels like youu are p1ssing lava, it's got to be better than having that hosepipe rammed down a hole that is too small for it.

Luckily there were many of those. The hottest two being the two GPs who looked after him and visited the house; they must have been younger than myself (29). Both stunning, one Irish lass and one Indian lass.
