Why do so many people contract you are to your instead of you're?

I see it so often from people who claim English as their first language but I don't know if they do it because they're thick or lazy.

What's the story?

Because you're and your to most people is the second greatest mystery of the English language.

Just after their, there and they're and just before "it's sought after not sort after you dumb ass"

A combination of laziness, poor education, writing/typing as they hear, and not taking any pride in what they write.

It's not a spelling mistake though. It's ignorance of basic literacy.
