or is anyone else fed up and disgusted by Britains total over reaction to this Russel Brand / Jonathan Ross non-story. Yes it was out of order, is it worth three concurrent threads on PH, thousands of lines of news print, and days of news coverage? No, it was a stupid ill-thought out spur of the moment prank.

There were 4 complaints on the night 4. There are now over 10,000. This means that 10,000 morons actively sought out a radio programme just so they could be offended at it. Find some real issues to take offence to you sad, sad bds.

Sometimes my fellow countrymen disgust me.

I think 10,000 people think these 2 idiots disgust them, which is why they have made a noise. Far to offten in this country, we lay down and keep quiet. I think it is a good thing.

It's ste, but what I expect from the media in this country now, to sensationalise everything. What did surprise me is politicians getting involved though, surely they have more important things to do then comment on a radio 2 joke that they don't really have anything to do with.
Russell Brand has been around long enough for everyone to know what he's like, don't listen to his show if you're not a fan, I bet the vast majority of those 10k complaints didn't listen to it live.

These pair of twunts don't even deserve house room. What is really getting on my tits is that Gordon Brown has now added his 2p's worth to fuel the fire even more. Errr.... hang on, arn't we in the middle of a financial crisis, WTF is the bloody PRIME MINISTER getting involved with a pair of useless wkers, who will never work on British TV ever again.

Admitedly it will be to be able to switch on the telly and not have to have one of these overgrown schoolboy baffoons talking a load of crap and wasting my licence fee. soapbox

But that's exactly my point - we don't. Instead the public get offended by something as pathetic as this and bury their heads in the sand when it comes to life changing issues.

At least it's taken the stock market away from the headlines!. Over re-action, yes, pair of over paid tossers again yes. Media hype yes.
But live by the sword die by the sword they play the media to their own ends regularly, this will probably mean that Jonathan toss will be paid 50million next year.

I think that the big reaction to this story is the result of the unleashing of pent-up anger at characters like Brand (and to a lesser extent, Ross).
On the whole, "normal" people resent the way that highly paid "celebrities" seem to be able to operate outside normal rules of behaviour and indeed, may even seem to be rewarded for outlandish and downright rude behaviour.

Only my two penneth worth, but...

I think the way in which they humiliated an old timer to get a cheap laugh is utter wk behaviour.
I do think some people have jumped on the bandwagon in complaining but that is their call, not mine.
Im always up for a giggle, and near-to-the-knuckle humour doesnt usually offend me, it makes me laugh.
There's just something a bit pathetic about this case.
They should both be punished, but probably wont.

Its turned into a backlash against the license fee. Because everyone pays it they feel they have the right to have an opinion even if it has nothing to do with the incident in question.

I am inclined to agree, especially when you have Golden Brown and David Camelman wading in rolleyes

your right.

Peter Cook and Dudley Moore would never have said anything as outlandish as Brand and Ross have smile
Peter Cooke in particular did push the limits that existed in the 1960s. However, in his broadcast work he was much cleverer and more careful than Brand or Ross would ever be. His targets were mainly the "establishment" as it was percieved at that time - not old, inoffensive, semi-retired actors.
Obviously, the recorded material (by which I mean sketches performed on vinyl LPs) were much darker and bluer - but radio and TV audiences never heard these over the airwaves.

I'm all for pushing the boundaries of comedy. But, if you are going to be outrageous, you have to be very careful who you chose as the targets of your humour. Elederly gents who the public would percieve as being quite harmless and who are talented actors in their own right, are just not the right target.
They've probably got Clive Dunne lined up for their next stunt.

Maybe they feel what they see as the erosion of deceny and morality by so-called figure heads of society is life changing in itself and thus the key to sorting out all the other crap?
(But there is the "If you don't like it don't listen and eventually Ross and tt will get dropped from the schedule" approach)
I wonder what the Spanish table-waiting fraternity felt like at the height of Fawlty Towers fame?

yes Beyond a certain demographic, largely people too young to know any better, Brand is extensively loathed - it seems many are taking this opportunity to vent their feelings......

Also, I do think the whole thing was out of order. I'm no prude, but a message for an older gentleman gloating about shagging his grandaughter!? Come on.......
