Strange thing happened this morning
Discussion
On approaching a mobile camera site this morning (bang on 30mph after being flashed by about 3 cars) the van had a clear sight of the front of the car. What was interesting is the LED bit of the instrumentation (mileage and temp)dimmed for about 5 seconds on approach. It has happened before too. Would that be the laser causing it? I have a Z4M and it has ambient light sensing to dim the instruments in low light but I would have thought the laser or laser beam scatter would have the opposite effect i.e. not dimming. Anyone else had this?
Headlights contain most spectrums of light, a laser has a precise frequency, so it would sound like the laser fooled your dashboard into thinking its sensing headlights.
It is infact acting like a laser detector but it is not selective in the frequency it catches.
By modifying the Photodiode circuitry you could always get the sensor to warn you of ANPR/CCTV cameras pointing in your direction.. but it would also warn you everytime it saw any other light source that was pointed at the detector.
