Well, 'The Office' was very good, but was funny largely because it focused on a sad little ugly man who thought he was really funny and a comedy genius, but really isn't at all. Hmmm...scratchchin

'Extras' had it's moments, but was largely dreary and unfunny, and I suspect the funny moments weren't written by Gervais.

'Animals' did have some very good moments, but, well, see above.

'Politics' didn't even have the good moments, was crap.

Film 'acting' rubbish and unconvincing - I suspect this is true for his new film also....

Appearances in person, Jonathon Ross show, recent film interviews etc - not very funny, arrogant, annoying, incredibly punchable face.

IMO he is nothing compared to others in similar careers - Steve Coogan anyone?

(Mind you, he is a comedy genius compared to Russell 'Twat' Brand......)

Can't watch him in anything other than 'The Office', which is pure genius, oh and the episode of The Simpsons he was in.

As for Russell Brand. I still can't understand how or what he is 'famous' for. Having worse hair than Jo Brand perhaps? Though at least she was funny.

I've gone off Ricky Gervais, but I'd still rate him way above Steve Coogan, who would be nothing without Alan Partridge(second series of this was lame IMO).

Steve Coogan can't do stand-up and most of his material is written by others.

Hear hear - he thinks he is a genius, and what is more irritating, the luvvie community think he is a genius, when he really only had one good idea and one TV persona.

I didn't think extras was all that good, and in Night at the Museum he was "out-acted" IMHO.. Thought a couple of his stand up jokes were not bad, but if you watch the stand ups from the Apollo they seem funnier to me...

But The Office was sensational. If only he'd stopped right after that...

The Ricky Gervaids audiobooks are hilarious, but that's mainly down to Pilkington. I thought Extras was excellent. The thing is that Gervais is Brent. There's no getting away from that, and if you find that awkwardness funny, you'll find his stuff funny. Like most he's typecast.

Never been funny, never will be funny as far as I'm concerned. The best thing about The Office was the supporting cast, not his performance as a sad smug loser. Which judging by the rest of his output was not much of a stretch.

God knows why most of the media seem to think he's some kind of genius, I just don't get it.

Mind you if we all liked the same thing and wanted the same woman, life would be very boring and she would be very tired.

Stephen Merchant is very funny, I wonder how much input he has had in The Office and Extras.

I actually think he's very funny. I was watching the 'Fame' stand up show at the weekend and thought he was very good.

The Office was excellent as well and I thought Extras was amusing because of the 'stars' taking the piss out of themselves.

Have another couple clapclap

Not a huge fan of Wossy but if Gervais is on it I make sure not to watch. they are clearly good mates and it just becomes an ego love in. Gervais has one character that he stays in everytime they put a camera in front of him... that character is one of a

I hate Gervais so much I would even rate Russel Brand above him in the comedy stakes.

I agree with the O/P.

Also, while I absolutely love Alan Partridge, I have a nagging feeling that that is the limit of Coogan's skill. Never liked any of his other "characters" particularly, found him lukewarm in that Phileas Fogg thing, and Saxondale was a bit, ah, Partidge-y.

Going to see his standup next month, hope it's good!

Lots of luck with the Coogan gig, I've seen that it's a best of his characters show rather than stand-up.

Couldn't agree more, his stand up routines are painfully unfunny and I've never found The Office or Extras particularly funny either.

Obviously some people do otherwise he'd not be on.

Personally I can't fathom why anyone would like any of the music played on Radio 1 but as folk buy it I have to accept they do.

So here's a tip, everyone is different but there's enough channels on your TV, Radio or Web Browser so that even though there's bound to be something you don't like, you won't have far to go to find something you do. Alternatively you could sit though something you hate just to moan about it afterwards.

For the record, I find Gervais, Coogan, Carr, Brand & Ross very funny.

But then each to their own.

He's one of the 'jolly' crowd that the BBC pander to, and as funny as a kick in the balls.

Mind you, for a fat ugly scrotum, he has maximised his talent.

The thing with Ricky Gervais and Wossy as well for that matter, is that they're bloody everywhere! R.V was indeed funny in the office, but not much else IMHO. Jonafun Woss is (when he behaves) a good presenter, but the pair of them are on numerous adverts, poxy award shows, you name it. It's as though they've become famous for being famous.

What nonsense.
The office is nothing short of genius. Just because you don't get it -it doesnt mean that everyone else is wrong and you are right.
