I know a very strange question to ask here but....
What is the best kind of mattress to buy the one we have at the moment has just gone to pot
and it feels like your sleeping on concrete and the springs in certain places dig into you so half way through a cracking kip you get a rude awakening by a poke but not by what i want to be poking me and it's very painful.

Try the Dreams warehouse places, they usually have a lot to try out, the prices aren't too bad and they can usually deliver pretty quickly, which was our experience anyway.
I have a mattress that is pocket sprung but also has a memory foam layer and its is absolute bliss to sleep on.
If you like to be very cosy and warm in bed then I definitely recommend a memory foam mattress as they do seem to retain the heat well.
OH doesn't like it though but I don't like his mattress! We joked the other day that if we ever live together we'll end up sleeping in separate beds because our taste in mattress is so opposite!
