Any TV engineers out there?
Discussion
Hope so! I've got a Philips 42PF5521 Plasma TV, about 2 1/2 years old. As part of the normal operation, when switching into standby, the screen does not shut off completely but stays dim for a few minutes while the set looks for any s/w upgrades. It then shuts down as normal.
Well, I have been away from home all week. When I came back I noticed that the screen was in this "dim" mode. Iswitched it on and all was normal until I tried to switch on again nexr day, I noticed that the power indicator LED was not lit (normally red on standby, green for on). The set did nothing when controlled by the remote.
I unplugged the mains lead for a couple of minutes and the plugged in again. The LED still wasn't on but the screen came up in dim mode for about a minute, then shut down.
So, does anyone have a circuit diagram or details for this set? I'm thinking that the fault is power-supply related as the screen is doing it's "dim-mode" thing and the main power LED is totally off.
And yes, I've checked the mains fuse and confirmed that power is getting to the set!!

Can't help with a circuit diagram however I can agree with your diagnosis, it does look like a PSU problem. I have seen it on a few Philips TVs before.
Cheers, I'm going to whip the PSU out and check it. There seem to be a few for sale on the interweb, so even if I can't repair it, Iknow I can get a replacement PSU.Gassing Station | The Pie & Piston Archive | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
